For Australia’s Cam Smith, the victory at the Centurion Club in Hemel Hempstead couldn’t have come at a better time. After all, he is all set to begin his title defense at the British Open in two weeks! Yet, the LIV pro appeared a tad bit dejected after his win.

In his final round, Smith ended up missing a 6-foot putt on the 18th hole that would have led to the first-ever team playoff in LIV Golf’s history! Instead, he made a bogey that saw his team, Ripper GC, finish in second place, a shot behind the Dustin Johnson-led 4Aces GC.

Really mixed emotions, you know. We have been talking about it all year. It’s been in the group chats,” the golfer confessed in the final round press conference. But the major winner is staying hopeful after Ripper GC’s second-place finish, which is its best result to date.

We showed that we’re a contender of the team stuff,” he said. “That’s where we want to be every week.”

Smith bests Marc Leishman and Patrick Reed to win his second LIV title

In the past few months, Australia’s Cam Smith has had several impressive outings on the greens. Back in May, he lost the LIV Tulsa title to Dustin Johnson in an action-packed playoff. He then went on to achieve top-10 finishes in both the PGA Championship and the US Open.

At LIV London, he was finally able to translate the missed chances into a win, nabbing his second victory in 13 regular-season starts since joining LIV. The golfer had kicked off the tournament with an 8-under-par 63 before adding a 67 on Saturday. A third-round 68 saw him finish with a winning score of 15 under 198.

He finished one shot ahead of Ripper GC teammate Marc Leishman and former Masters winner Patrick Reed, both of whom took home $1,875,000 each in earnings.

Smith now plans on spending some time in London before heading to Hoylake, which will be hosting the 2023 British Open. He is among the 16 players from LIV who are playing in the major this year.
