Is DeChambeau's satisfaction more valuable than Koepka's millions? What's your take?

Brooks Koepka’s 2024 season was filled with many ups and downs. In the past 12 events of LIV Golf, the 5-time major winner carded only five top finishes, which included two victories. Once in Singapore and recently at the Old White Course in Greenbrier. These illustrious wins make Koepka the first pro on the breakaway circuit to garner five victories. Pretty decent record, right?

Moreover, courtesy of the 12 events and two wins, the 34-year-old has bagged $11.038 million in LIV Golf’s 2024 season so far and has been ranked 4th on the current money list, as per Golf Monthly’s reports. On the other hand, the fan-favorite golfer, the man of the people, Bryson DeChambeau, couldn’t win any events on LIV Golf this year. Thus, he earned $5.477 million to be 15th on the list. Hence, in the Saudi-funded league, Koepka had a better season and outnumbered the Scientist; but there is one thing in which the 30-year-old reigned and Koepka failed.

That is the majors and Koepka’s performance in them. The 5-time major winner won the PGA Championship in 2023, but in the current season, he was T26 at the PGA Championship and the US Open, T45 at the Masters, and finished the major runs after posting T43 at the Open. In contrast, DeChambeau won the US Open for the second time after his astonishing performance at Pinehurst, was second at the PGA Championship by just 1 stroke, and T6 at the Masters. The only blot was the Open Championship, where he unfortunately missed the cut.

The comparison is interesting because, at one point, the two were archrivals. It all started with Koepka calling out the slow play by long hitters, particularly DeChambeau, during the 2019 Dubai Desert Classic. After which, the 2-time US Open winner confronted his then-nemesis’s caddie and later ridiculed him about not having abs on a Twitch stream. In response, Koepka did something quirky.

He posted an image of his four major trophies on X and threw shade at DeChambeau, who at that time just had one major win. Koepka wrote,You were right @b_dechambeau I am 2 short of a 6 pack!Everything between the two is sorted now, as after DeChambeau’s 2024 US Open win, Koepka welcomed him to the club of 2x US Open winners. Four years ago, Koepka had the upper hand, but this time it was DeChambeau.

In the end, the 2-time major winner had the last laugh over Koepka as he shined brightly in the majors but his league-mate failed to, despite two wins in the disruptive league. And it is us who are saying that Koepka had a bad season. The 5-time major champion agrees with it himself.

Brooks Koepka regrets his 2024 season

What’s your perspective on:

Is DeChambeau's satisfaction more valuable than Koepka's millions? What's your take?

Have an interesting take?

Before Brooks Koepka emerged victorious at LIV Golf Greenbrier, he shared the disappointment following him with how he fared in all the majors. On Friday of the Greenbrier event, the media asked Koepka how he would compare the 2024 season to last year. Dejectedly, the 5-time major winner said, “This year has not been great. This year has been actually very disappointing… Played absolutely horrible in all the majors.” But this is before the win, right? But even after getting the fifth LIV trophy, the 34-year-old stood by his previous stance.

He would always be known as the first one on LIV Golf to get a fifth win, but still, it was not enough for Koepka. A reporter asked in the post-win press conference if his stance had changed. He assertively replied, “No, no, no, not at all. Four majors was pretty disappointing.” Furthermore, he downplayed his two victories and said that he won because he had only two chances to win and said, “That’s not enough.”

The one thing Koepka was eyeing this year was the sixth major. But he could not get it, and yet DeChambeau successfully won a major with scintillating form in the other two. When it comes down to it, even with millions more in his bag, Bryson DeChambeau did get ahead of Brooks Koepka in the 2024 season.
