Sergio Garcia was able to put up a stunning showcase of golf at the Rich Harvest Farms, Chicago, scoring a 66 (-5) in a bid to take home the winner’s cut of $4 million. However, the pro golfer could only place himself at the top position tied with four other professionals including his Fireballs GC teammate, Anirban Lahiri.
In a press conference after the first round, Garcia was seen mentioning how the conditions on the course were “quite gettable.” Adding to his observation, the LIV pro said that he was “actually surprised that there wasn’t a couple lower scores today,” all the while ambitiously confessing as to how he also could have shot one of those.
Nevertheless, the 43-year-old was quick to point out that the course was such that one needed to hit the ball nicely to score. Moreover, the ex-DP World Tour pro also emphasized how a player will be able to “make a lot of birdies” if he strikes the ball well.
It is not a surprise to see a golfer like Garcia showcasing his ambitious side since that is one of the many qualities that propelled him to the top layer of professionals in the game. Moreover, he even took to the European Tour, a while back, in a bid to once again portray his zealous mindset!

Sergio Garcia’s last attempt at the Ryder Cup
Due to his resignation from the Tour, the golfer’s name was not included in the Ryder Cup list which he was a part of for a total of 10 times over the past two decades. But that didn’t stop the event’s all-time leading points scorer from attempting a last-minute effort at getting a spot in the squad as he offered to pay the fine of £100,000 and more if he was allowed to play. But the Tour made it clear that he would not be able to join until the following year, much to the disappointment of the golfer.

One can’t help but respect the Ryder Cup veteran for his drive to play for the country. Besides, the prospect of sidelining a player like Garcia, who has the most number of points in the history of the tournament, is nothing short of a huge setback to the team. Nevertheless, every eye will be on the Spanish professional as he takes to the weekend in a bid to push past the rest of the golfers and clinch the trophy.
