Jon Rahm, a three-time winner of the DP World Tour Championship, has surprisingly decided to skip the season-ending tournament in Dubai from November 14-17. Despite being eligible as 38th in the DP World Tour Rankings, Rahm has chosen not to compete in the limited 50-man tournament. This decision comes as a surprise, given his eagerness to secure a spot on Luke Donald’s European Ryder Cup team in 2025.
Rahm had even appealed against his fines for joining LIV Golf to maintain his DP World Tour membership and keep his Ryder Cup aspirations alive. Rahm’s decision to skip the DP World Tour Championship follows the recent birth of his second child which has prompted him to focus on family. Despite meeting the requirements to maintain his membership by competing in four regular events, the Olympics, Open de Espana, Dunhill Links, and Andalucia Masters.
Rahm’s absence from the season finale raises questions about his commitment to the Ryder Cup team. The latest tweet by a contributing editor for Golf Digest named John Huggan talked about the same matter. “No Jon Rahm in Abu Dhabi and no Jon Rahm in Dubai. Time to tell him where to stick his place in the next Ryder Cup? 🤷♂️,” read the post.

But this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone as the golfer had already said that something like this might happen.
Jon Rahm’s recent decisions reflect his commitment to his family
Jon Rahm’s recent decisions to skip the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and DP World Tour Championship don’t come as a surprise, given his well-documented family priorities. The golfer’s wife, Kelley Cahill, faced a complicated pregnancy, and Rahm has consistently put his family’s needs above his golf career.

In July, Rahm expressed uncertainty about his schedule due to his family’s situation. “At this point, I’m still waiting on what might happen with my wife and daughter that I don’t know if I’ll be able to play or not,” he said. With two young children, Kepa and Eneko, to care for, Rahm admitted he wasn’t thinking beyond September or October.
“I’m not going to lie, anything past September or October right now, with the situation I have with my wife and daughter, I’m really not thinking about it, to be honest,” he continued. Now that Cahill is recovering, Rahm is focused on supporting his loved ones. So, when do you think the golfer will make a return to the greens to hopefully save his Ryder Cup future?
