68-year-old Greg Norman is, without a doubt, one of the most controversial figures in the history of golf. Norman ruffled quite a few feathers when golfing heavyweights defected to his Saudi-backed breakaway series last year.
The Australian entrepreneur struck lucrative deals with the likes of Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, and Dustin Johnson, turning everyone’s heads last year. Recently, the ex-pro-golfer opined that LIV is better than the PGA Tour, as the former allowed golfers to “look into the future.”

The recently-concluded Masters tournament saw LIV golfers delivering exceptional performances at Augusta. Both Koepka and Mickelson tied at T2, walking home with $1.584 million in earnings. Meanwhile, 2018 Masters winner and LIV golfer, Patrick Reed finished at T4, winning $744,000.
Last year, however, this roster of golfers drew significant flak for their defection to the Saudi-backed league. Greg Norman shed light on the “generational wealth” factor that helped the ex-PGA Tour players make their decision.
“Generational wealth is there to be had,” shared the LIV CEO. Per Norman, LIV golfers get the chance to amass generational wealth through each team, which they own a part of. Ownership cuts enable players to share in revenue and profits as their teams start selling corporate sponsorships and ownership stakes.
Norman shared that it was the prospect of creating significant wealth that lured golfers like Cameron Smith in. According to reports, the reigning British Open champion joined LIV for a whopping sum of $140 million. “Now these captains like Cam are working out how to maximise their value through generational wealth,” revealed the former pro-golfer.

Norman believes LIV Golf allows players to look into future
The controversial LIV Golf CEO is well-known for taking at swipe at the rival PGA Tour, whenever he gets the chance. In February of last year, Norman directed a jibe at golf legends and PGA supporters Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
As the PGA-LIV drama picks up steam, Greg Norman once again opined why the players in the Saudi-backed faction preferred LIV over the PGA Tour. “We are giving them the opportunity to look into the future instead of month by month, year by year, on the PGA Tour and where they see my schedule is like ‘I‘m going to play this, 23 or 24 tournaments, oh, that same old grind again’,” he revealed.
