The Ryder Cup is all set to begin this Friday. The weekend will be an exciting chain of events. The event will take place at the beautiful Marco Simone golf club in Rome, where the warriors of the American and European teams will battle out for their patriotic honor. Now mere days away, there is a lot of speculation about the possible pairings at the Ryder Cup.

On the American side, the most formidable duo has played five matches and won all five. This pair sees Xander Schauffele on one end and his arguable ‘brother in arms’ on the other, with whom his bond dates back to their chance encounter on a long flight when they shared a game of cards!

Xander Schauffele recently made an appearance on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. He was asked a series of interesting questions. However, one specific question stood out. This question was about his ‘perfect pairing’.

The host of the show very slyly said, “If you had to take some money off the boys, who would you pick in the world if you were going to just play a two-man fourball money game, and why is his name Patrick Cantlay?” The room then broke out in a series of laughs.

Schauffele couldn’t help but agree that the World No. 5 would be his go-to partner. He claimed that Patrick Cantlay was simply amazing and that the pair shared the “best-ever chemistry”. He also pointed out that, amongst amateur and pro golfers, he gets along best with Cantlay.

The 7-time PGA Tour winner believes that they both “match really well.” He also added that all this while they have been best buddies, they have also played a lot of golf together, and hence they were a good fit. An example of their strong partnership is the fact that they have played five foursome matches as a tandem at the Presidents and Ryder Cups combined and won all five of them.

The players boast an impressive Ryder Cup track record. Both have only made their Ryder Cup debut recently in the last edition. Patrick Cantlay notably held a 2021 Ryder Cup record of 3-0-1.

As an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, Cantlay has been fulfilling the potential he demonstrated as the world’s top amateur golfer a decade ago. As for Schauffele, he is back for his second consecutive Ryder Cup after a successful 3-1-0 debut as a member of the winning U.S. team at Whistling Straits.
