The 105th PGA Tour Championship is finally here and the scoreboard looks phenomenal with Bryson DeChambeau, a LIV golfer, in the lead closely followed behind by Scottie Scheffler. The golf community is keenly following the event updates as they unfold. Apart from DeChambeau and Scheffler, another golfer gaining attention during the first round of the event was Viktor Hovland, who was caught scoring a 2-under par 68. But it was certainly not his terrific shot that stole the headlines of the day.

Hovland’s choice of clothing on the course have come under the limelight as pictures of him on the course went viral. The PGA Tour pro has made many gasp with his colorful and bright shirts. However, the comments that he gets aren’t always appraisals, rather most of them almost always amount to criticism and trolling. But the Norwegian golfer revealed the secret behind these outfits.
How does Viktor Hovland pick his clothes for the game?
On Thursday, the 25-year-old golfer was seen wearing a half-sleeved orange-yellow ombre shirt called the ‘sunset fade’ on display at the field. The shirt was covered in white diamond patterns that he paired with white pants. He covered it up with a blue and orange pullover with a matching ombre zipper in the early hours of the morning. This bright summery outfit was sent to him by J. Lindberg. But are brightly colored shirts his style?
Although he is spotted in fun colors and patterns, the golfer revealed he mostly wears grays and blacks. Then what made him set up this tradition of exhibiting different styles at major events? The Norwegian golfer himself spoke up about it. The PGA Tour pro became the brand ambassador of J. Lindeberg in 2019. He revealed, “Well, J. Lindeberg, they give me this stuff and pay me money to do so, so I just show up and wear what they want me to wear.”

The golfer doesn’t really care what others have to say about his attire. It is undeniable that he has slayed the outfit and will hopefully continue to do so in further events.

This wasn’t the first time that Hovland wore an eye-catching outfit and people went on to criticize him. During the Masters in April, Viktor was seen in another J. Lindeberg shirt when he was playing alongside Tiger Woods and Xander Schauffele. It was a $115 red floral shirt with Azalea flowers to honor the 13th hole ‘Azalea’ at Augusta National.

However, fans couldn’t keep themselves from roasting him in that outfit. They took to Twitter and ridiculed him, calling his shirt “an exploded watermelon.” But the golfer revealed an insight. He said in an interview that he never chooses his own outfits and wears “what they tell me to wear.” He admitted that the outfits are a bit catchy and bright but then laughed it off saying that they still are better than the pink pants he had to clothe himself in last year.
