LIV’s Talor Gooch handed Sergio Garcia a heartbreaking defeat in Singapore as he lifted his second LIV trophy in a row. Gooch’s win came in a thrilling playoff after both the golfers finished their final rounds with 17-under 196.

Despite his loss, the Spaniard cut a valiant figure, exchanging leads with Gooch several times throughout the event. Garcia, who won at the Sentosa Golf Club in 2018, had earlier acknowledged the golfing acumen of the 48-player field in LIV Singapore, sharing that one needed to raise their level “as much as possible” to play in the Saudi-backed league.

The Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore is a familiar turf for Garcia. The 43-year-old had earlier won the SMBC Singapore Open at the golf course in 2018.

So, how does Garcia feel about his return to Sentosa? “At the end of the day, I think that every tournament is a different story. The course is playing similar to when we played it here on the Singapore Open, but maybe a little bit longer, a couple tees that we didn’t use there,” shared the golfer.

For Garcia, however, LIV Singapore couldn’t be more different from the 2018 event. He acknowledged the talent that exists in Greg Norman’s league, saying, “If you want to contend on a LIV tournament, you have to raise your level as much as possible because all of these guys can play, can really play the game.

Both Gooch and 2017 Masters winner Garcia birdied the final hole to card 4-under 67s and finish on 17-under. The LIV pros replayed the 18th hole for the playoff, and Gooch tapped in a birdie to emerge victorious. This is the American’s second $4m win in just a matter of days. Before defecting to LIV, he had won just one title on the PGA Tour. Recently, the LIV golfer also received an invitation to play in the upcoming PGA Championship.

For his second-place finish, Garcia will pocket  $2,250,000. Meanwhile, 3-time Major winner Brooks Koepka finished third and will take home $1,500,000.
