The Ladies European Tour (LET) has announced a new mini-documentary From Scratch – Cara Gainer, that will cover the journey of England’s female golfer Cara Gainer. Cara is a new yet growing name in the golf world who has made quite impressive achievements since turning professional. But Cara’s interest wasn’t always in Golf. Before she got invested in the sport, Cara’s first love was tennis and still is. In the clip from the documentary, Gainer speaks about struggling to manage both tennis and golf together in her teen years.
About the predicament, Cara explained, “I didn’t finish my tennis career until I was 17 years old. So there was a period of 2 or 3 years where I was still trying to get a lot with tennis and I was, then I guess trying to see if I was any good at golf and see if I enjoyed it really. That was the most important part.”
Her tennis coach Ed Isard, in the documentary has also complimented her for embracing challenges and discipline. After her father took her to the Drayton Golf Range, she developed a liking for golf and adapted quickly. According to her father, she improved at golf much quicker at golf than she did at tennis.

Although her interest in golf grew, her love for tennis never perished. She says, “Tennis has always been my kind of first love. I still love watching it now, watching professional tennis. But yeah I guess, once I had graduated from uni and won the English amateur that’s when I kind of put full focus into golf and thought this could be the career for me and potentially a very successful one”.
At the age of 17, she became a scratch golfer. As she didn’t go to American colleges to learn golf, her golf coach Rob Watts, said that she is 3-4 years behind her peers. But he also commended her for being a quick learner, and said that she is catching up to speed.
