In 1997 at Augusta, 21-year-old Tiger Woods won his first international tournament. They celebrated the glorious victory on the course, but the head covers stole the show. There is a much more intimate story behind the headcovers, named Frank, involving his mother, Kultida.

The headcovers have once again come to attention after the official Twitter handle of TWLEGION uploaded a snippet where Dan Rapaport is seen talking about covers and telling the legendary story behind them. They captioned the post, “Not a new story but cool to hear.” You must be wondering what is so cool about a headcover. It’s just a cover. Indeed, it was, but there is much more intricate detail about it which is interesting to say the least.
The story behind the headcovers of Tiger Woods
A simple headcover for the clubs can become super special if it has your mother’s touch and love. Since Woods turned pro in 1996, his mother, Kultida, has been buying Tiger headcover for her son. For the sake of tradition, she gives it to him every year. However, these covers were different from those in the golf stores.
It was special because it had his mother’s message. After buying the covers, Kultida used to write a message in Thai language, which translated to “Love From Mom.” Dan also uploaded the same clip on his Twitter handle and wrote,” The story behind Tiger Woods’ driver headcover, Frank, is downright AWWWWWW worthy.”

The other two speakers were shocked by the unusual tradition followed by Kultida. However, they also loved the gesture and appreciated it. The co-speakers felt that the practice was pretty ridiculous but super cool.
According to an interview with Golf.com in 2019, Woods made covers very famous in 1997. When the manufacturer of headcovers, Daphne’s Headcovers, received great attention after Woods carried his first tiger headcover on the course. They received an insane amount of orders, and there are only three dates that Spicer, CEO, remembered back in 2019. It was the birthday of her kids and the date when Woods won the match.
