The 2023 US Open will witness as many as four Stanford members. The young team comprises Michael Thorbjornsen, Barclay Brown, Karl Vilips, and Alexander Yang, all of whom belong to different years at the famed university.
While little is known about the quartet, there are bits and pieces about the team’s achievements across their collegiate season. A Communication junior in college, Thorbjornsen was named the Golfer of the Year for an outstanding 2023 season. His biggest accolade included making it to the Ping All-American first team, which was a reward for his consistency across the year.
Keen observers have also identified Karl Vilips as a potential superstar in the making. Another communication junior, the Indonesia-born made headlines after winning the US Kids and Junior World Championships at ages 7, 9, 10, and 12.
Vilips has continued that sort of form in his collegiate golf, where an impressive season helped him to an honorable mention in the 2023 Ping All-American team. Hailing from Perth, Australia, he has also been named in the All-Pac-12 First Team this season.

Despite the abundance of talent on the LPGA Tour, 20-year-old teenage sensation Rose Zhang scripted history after securing a victory on her debut event at the women’s tour. The win propelled her status as the game’s future superstar, with comparisons to Tiger Woods imminent.
However, she shares more than just history-making with the fifteen-time major winner. Zhang is a proud Stanford golfer herself and has many records for her name.
