In the field of female golf, Annika Sorenstam has been among the greatest players. With 97 professional wins under her belt, out of which 10 were major tournaments, the LPGA legend has rewritten the history of women’s golf and is an inspiration for this and the upcoming generation.
Even now, the legend plays on the senior tour and makes appearances in selective tournaments on the LPGA to raise the spirits of all and also cheer on other winners. There is no doubt that the term Greatest of All Time or (GOAT) can be used to describe her. However, the Swede herself does not believe in it.

Sorenstam last appeared at this year’s US Open. It was her last time at the competition, and though she couldn’t make the cut, she was still given a gratitude-filled homage for her contribution to the sport. Such is the aura of the Swedish LPGA star whose achievements spread beyond the ordinary.
In 2003, she claimed a career grand slam by winning each major championship once during the main part of her career. This is an incredible feat that, in history, has been earned by only a handful. But despite all this, she continues to maintain a humble self and doesn’t see herself in the light that others do. She recently appeared on the 5 Clubs podcast, where she responded to being called the ‘GOAT’.
She stated that she was never looking for greatness when she started playing the game. “I appreciate when you say that, but I guess you know, I really don’t look at it that way.” Sorenstam was the epitome of humility as she added, “I’m just another human being…that wasn’t really my goal; I think the goal was more just, you know, to be good at what I was doing and having fun doing it.”
The LPGA legend claimed that things just worked out for her as her career progressed. “Things just kind of led to, you know, just kind of following the path, I guess. But I mean, it’s a nice compliment,” she stated humbly. Annika’s gratitude towards this recognition further adds to her charisma. And even though she is not actively playing much anymore, she is still heavily involved in the sport!

Sorenstam’s involvement in golf despite retirement
Annika Sorenstam continues to participate in golf, and outside of it, she even helps younger women advance in the sport through her foundation! In 2021, she played in the Gainbridge LPGA Championship, where she shot a 75 on her return and left the younger player in awe of her. That year, she also won the U.S. Senior Women’s Open in August.
Sorenstam also makes appearances in tournaments as a special guest to raise the spirits of the golfers. The golf legend was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame at age 33 and embraced retirement from her professional career as world No. 2 after winning 90 international tournaments, the most ever by a female golfer.
