2023 had been a miraculous year for Lilia Vu, with two major wins in the same LPGA Tour season. But for Charley Hull, the picture was the opposite. Despite trying her level best, she missed out on the US Women’s Open title and sat in second place on the leaderboard. And history repeated itself for the golfer by placing her again in the second position at the AIG Women’s Open Championship

Despite her latest situation, Hull seems to be planning for a celebrated season’s end. Thus, Charley Hull, along with seven other LPGA Tour pros, went ahead to seal their much awaited dream! 

The spectacular 2023 Solheim Cup European Team

The 2023 Solheim Cup is scheduled to take place just ahead of the coveted Ryder Cup from September 22 to September 24. As for its venue, it has chosen Finca Cortesin for the tournament. There were several LPGA Tour stars who were striving throughout the season to get a place on both Solheim Cup teams. Finally, eight players have automatically qualified, sealing their place in the European  Solheim Cup team, and will be flying to Spain this year. 

According to LET, the automatic qualifiers are: 

Celine Boutier – Boutier topped the LET Solheim Cup points list with 264.57 points. And her back-to-back wins at the Amundi Evian Championship and the Freed Group Women’s Scottish Open became a boon in disguise for the LPGA star. 

Maja Stark– Closely followed by Boutier is Maja Stark, who secured the second spot on the team with 262.42 points. Stark turned professional in 2021, and she has six wins on the LET from the last two years to flaunt.

Charley Hull – Charley Hull leads the list of the six players who have qualified via the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. This is Hull’s sixth year in the Solheim Cup. Her first debut was at the age of 17, and she had been a part of the winning team three times.

Leona Maguire – After showing a stellar performance in Toledo in 2021, she earned 4.5 out of 5 points. Now Maguire returns to Team Europe in 2023. 

Georgia Hall – The English golfer has returned to the Solheim Cup European Team, and this is her fourth year in this biennial event. She made her debut in 2017 and was on the winning team for the past two editions. 

Linn Grant – Grant will be on the European Solheim Cup Team as a rookie this year. The Swedish golfer has won five total tournaments in the LET for the past two years. She recently secured her maiden victory on the LPGA Tour as well. 

Carlota Ciganda – Spain will have a homie this year on the European team, and that is none other than Carlota Ciganda. And this is her sixth year at the Solheim Cup. 

Anna Nordqvist – The Swedish golfer will be playing as vice-captain in Spain. This is her eighth consecutive year in this tournament, having won 15.5 points from the 27 matches she has played. She is a three-time major champion. And has five LET tour wins.

Rose Zhang sets her eyes on the Solheim Cup

Having already had several accomplishments, Rose Zhang plans to seal a place on the US Solheim Cup team. She will be traveling to Spain this year. In an interview at the AIG Women’s Open, the rising golfer said, “Oh, I’m so excited. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been a junior golfer and I’ve played in two junior Solheim Cups, so just getting to experience those weeks definitely made this event special in my heart. Playing for the U.S. is always something special and it’s what all athletes want to do, represent their country, so for me to do that, especially now, I’m really excited,

She reflects on the fact that it is a matter of pride for Rose to represent her country in the Solheim Cup, and she accepts this honor with happiness.
