The banter around Scottie Scheffler’s arrest refuses to die down. After his PGA Tour peers, now an LPGA Pro joked about the infamous May 17 fiasco. Jenny Shin was traveling from her place to the Lancaster Country Club for the third round of the U.S. Women’s Open. The LPGA Pro had an 8 AM tee time, so by 6, she planned to arrive at the course.
However, the security officers in yellow jackets gave a strange Deja Vu. Shin tweeted, “It’s 5:36 am and I’m driving into our lot, A LOT of popos and security guards wearing the same yellow jackets, I had a momentary panic and forgot where to go”. She also added two hashtags – ‘straighttojail’, and ‘iobeybecauseimnotscottie’ (I obey because I’m not Scottie Scheffler).

Notably, on May 17, the day Scottie Scheffler was arrested, Shin asked, “Can someone explain to me what’s going on with Scheffler?” The 10-time PGA Tour winner was handcuffed outside the gates of Valhalla for allegedly breaking a traffic blockade. Arresting officer Bryan Gillis noted in his police report that Scheffler dragged him with his vehicle, refusing to stop. Gillis suffered ‘pain’ and ‘abrasion’ on his knee and wrist.
However, all the charges were dropped on May 29. Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell accepted that his team couldn’t move on with the evidence available. Bryan Gillis didn’t turn on his bodycam while arresting Scheffler.
On May 29, Scottie Scheffler, in an official statement, said, “I hold no ill will toward Officer Gillis. I wish to put this incident behind me and move on, and I hope he will do the same.” Gillis, in his statement, maintained that he was injured but quipped, “Yes, the department has us buying freaking $80 pants. To those concerned, they were indeed ruined. But, Scottie, it’s all good. I never would’ve guessed I’d have the most famous pair of pants in the country for a few weeks because of this. Take care and be safe.”
BREAKING: @wave3news troubleshooters just got this lengthy statement from @LMPD Det. Bryan Gillis on the dropped charges and the comments from Scheffler's attorney. He says: "To be clear, I was drug by the car, I went to the ground." Also mentions the $80 pants bit… pic.twitter.com/HCXORlV3ak

Although Scheffler’s arrest stirred up the golf community, his peers seemed less concerned. Earlier, PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele, too, said that Scheffler was subject to a lot of jokes in their WhatsApp group.
Scottie Scheffler was subjected to ‘fun’ pokes by his PGA Tour peers
Xander Schauffele thought the entire incident was just a mean prank. “The only thing he (Scottie Scheffler) hurts is a golf ball and other competitors’ feelings most of the time,” the 30-year-old said on Golf’s Subpar podcast. Regardless, none were willing to let it pass without a little friendly banter.

Schauffele, Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and a few other top PGA Tour pros share a common physio, Marnus Marais. Yes, the same person who massaged Scheffler’s neck at the PLAYERS Championship. Schauffele revealed, “It wasn’t like a mean poke. It was fun. I mean, the mug shot was posted, you know, and then someone changed the name of the group chat, like, ‘Please make it tomorrow, Scottie,’ or something like that.”
In the wake of Scheffler’s arrest, social media channels were flooded with memes. In fact, within a few hours of his detention, a few fans arrived on the course with his mugshot printed on their t-shirts. Jenny Shin kept that trend alive one more week.
