One of the most prominent PGA Tour policy board members, Jimmy Dunne is known to have played a key role in golf’s biggest-ever merger. In an interview with a leading media house, he revealed the insights into the deal which he brokered with H.E. Yassir Al-Rumayyan himself.
The round of discussions began in late April when the duo flew to England to discuss the proceedings. Remarkably, Dunne laughed off the idea of the PIF controlling the PGA Tour after the merger.
He revealed that the wealthy sovereign fund will only get the “right of first refusal” to be the Tour’s investment partner, which should most likely guarantee a position on the new board. However, what about the LIV Golf Series then, considered by close sources as Rumayyan’s dearest venture?

What happens to the LIV Golf Series in the new regime?
In a major revelation by Dunne, current PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, is set to keep an eye on the businesses at LIV Golf Series this season. At the end of the year, the newly formed tour will be expected to take a decision on the series, but considering Rumayyan’s position, any dramatic amendment seems unlikely.

However, the words of the PGA Tour and its members have been found erroneous at several stages across the last couple of years. While Dunne has maintained the PGA Tour’s strength over the merger, one can’t help but identify a blast from the past, which has already angered many within the golf community.
