For the first time in the last three, Tyrrell Hatton has achieved a professional victory in his career. The Englishman won the LIV Golf Nashville at The Grove and clinched his first-ever LIV Golf title. Moving forward, the 6-time DP World Tour winner was expected to have great momentum when he will tee up at The Open Championship in mid-July. But, the case presented hints a complete opposite.

Hatton defeated the reigning U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau and displayed great golfing skills on the course. However, despite this triumph, the Engish professional golfer did not seem confident that the victory at the Music City would in any way affect his performance at The Royal Troon.

At LIV Golf Nashville, Tyrrell Hatton shot three scintillating rounds of 65, 64, and 65 to be 19 under 194 to clinch his first $4 million winner’s paycheck and the striped black trophy at the winner’s podium. After his incredible victory at The Grove, Hatton was asked at the press conference, “Does this give you extra confidence and momentum heading into The Open in just a couple of weeks?”

In contrast to what many would have expected his answer to be, Hatton replied, “To be honest, no.” After the conclusion of LIV Golf Nashville, the players will have two weeks off, and the English pro explained that he would use that to enjoy his time in England. Moreover, detailing his plans for the mid-season off, Hatton said, “We’ve got our little lads’ Guinness golf tour in Ireland the week before Valderrama. So nice to have a bit of downtime.”

LIV Golf would be visiting Valderrama for its inaugural event just a week before The Open, thus, winning in Nashville doesn’t boost his momentum for the 152nd Open. Rather, Hatton explained that the result in Valderrama would matter more. He added, “It’s just a case of trying to get ready for Valderrama, and then take some momentum into The Open.”

The hot-headed English pro will hope that he can win even at Valderrama so that playing at The Royal Troon becomes easier than before. Hatton a 1-time PGA Tour and LIV Golf winner and a six-time victor on the European Tour, is still chasing his first major victory. At the last major of the year, what has been the 32-year-old’s performance in the past few years?

Unfortunately, Tyrrell Hatton has missed more cuts on The Open Championship than at any other major of golf. The 32-year-old was extremely unlucky he consecutively missed four cuts of The Open since his debut on the major in 2010. However, six years later, when the championship was held at Royal Troon, Hatton carded his best finish ever.

The LIV Golfer was in a tie for the fifth spot on the leaderboard and to date, he has yet to surpass that score. In the past two years, Hatton has tried to stay afloat at The Open. In 2022, he finished T11, while in 2023, his performance dropped to a subpar 1 under 283, T20 finish.  Following his two top-20 finishes, this year, the 6-time DP World Tour winner will likely hope for a finish inside the top five and aim to lift the 152nd Claret Jug at the historic Royal Troon Golf Course.
