Not the history that Xander Schuaffele would have wanted to repeat at the American Express. Even though the 30-year-old golfer put up an exceptional performance, the winner’s title eluded him by just short of two strokes, and he ended up tied for third place with 27 under 261 alongside Justin Thomas. The seven-time PGA Tour winner found himself in the very same position that he claimed a year prior on the greens of La Quinta.

His second event of the 2024 season was just short of a victory, and that may have been disappointing. But leaving that aside, after playing only through two events this season, Schauffele has catapulted himself among the top players when it comes to career earnings.

Xander Schauffele started his 2024 season with The Sentry. On Maui Island, the La Jolla native ranked among the top 10. Schauffele finished tied with Jason Day in the tenth position with 24 under. The top-10 finish earned him a check for $530,000.

Coming to the American Express at LA Quinta, Schauffele was third on the leaderboard. And as Nick Dunlap could not acquire the first-place prize money, the payout to the winner started with the runner-up. Which awarded Schauffele with a $635,600 boost and a prize purse set for T2.

The seven-time PGA Tour winner has acquired $1,165,600 in just a month courtesy of his two top-10 finishes. The recent flow of money adds to his total career earnings, bringing it up to $40,075,922. With that, Schauffele has become the 31st golfer to achieve the $40 million career-earning feat in the PGA Tour’s history.

Seemingly, this is all just a start for Schauffele for the 2024 season. Following his recent top performances, the eighth career victory may come whenever Schauffele plays the next event. Maybe at the next tournament, Schauffele may not feel “weird” playing his game.

Furthermore, Schauffele felt that he was losing sight of the game as others were making birdies after birdies. As the cut was also severe and making the birdies was inevitable for surviving, Schauffele found it “weird” playing the season’s early game.

Nonetheless, the world number five made quite a few birdies despite all and eventually rose above the most on the field. With stark performances one after another, the next start at the Farmers Insurance Open might end the winless drought Schauffele has been carrying since last year.
