Throughout its existence, the LIV Golf Series has faced innumerable adversities from traditionalists. Many have disregarded the tour due to its origins and its distinct format. However, seldom has the criticism stemmed from its own set of players. But with the prestigious Masters Tournament on the horizon, LIV golfer, Cameron Smith, has admitted defeat in one of the league’s major shortcomings.
Cameron Smith confesses on weak fields at LIV Golf
The reigning Open Championship winner was forthcoming about his tour’s drawbacks ahead of this week’s Masters. “I’ll be the first to say. The fields aren’t as strong,” he boldly claimed.

But while Smith has openly questioned the rebel league’s contingent, he believes the talk around it has been unwarranted. “I think there’s a lot of chatter about these guys don’t play real golf; these guys don’t play real golf courses,” Smith said.
“But we’ve still got a lot of guys up there that can play some really serious golf, and we compete against each other hard week in and week out, and we’re trying to do the same things that we did six months ago,” he further added.
Did Cameron Smith face hostility around the Augusta National?
This week’s Masters is set to be the first major championship where LIV golfers will tee up with their PGA Tour nemesis. A lot has been said and discussed regarding the prospect, which has only elevated tensions on both sides.
But like many other LIV defectors before him, Smith expressed his harmony with his fellow colleagues. The Australian was reportedly greeted by players with handshakes, smiles, and hugs.

“I just think there’s too much rubbish going on.” Smith said. “For me, I spent an hour out there and seen lots of familiar faces and it’s been nice. We’re all happy where we are.”
While his current form doesn’t inspire confidence, can Smith replicate his previous season’s form to clinch another major championship? The 29-year-old has a staggering record at Augusta National, with four top-10 finishes since 2018, including runners-up at the 2020 edition.
However, Smith’s performance since the turn of the year has been woeful. He moved to the LIV Golf Series last year after allegedly accepting a contract worth $100 million. Despite his take on the league’s weak field, the Aussie has finished sixth, 26th, and 29th in the three rebel events this year.
