Numbers don’t lie! Neither do they paint the whole truth. Unfortunately, LIV Golf doesn’t seem to be lucky in the latter department, especially when it comes to their golfers and the major championships. While it is true that Bryson DeChambeau clinched the 2024 U.S. Open title, the truth also remains that only a few other golfers, including Jon Rahm, were able to leave a mark at the other majors.

A report was shared by Fried Egg Golf pointing out the current state of the men’s professional game through the use of numbers. As per the same, a total of 24 athletes from the 54-player field in Chicago teed off in at least one major this year. It also took to highlight how false it is to mention how LIV Golf Pros do not have any opportunities to get into the major events.

A lot of golfers including the likes of Dean Burmester and Joaquin Niemann got into the field through various means. The former teed off at the U.S. Open and the Open Championship owing to gaining eligibility for the same via the Florida qualifiers and by winning the 2023 Joburg Open, respectively. The latter, on the other hand, was invited to the Masters and the PGA Championship owing to his performance this season.

The story doesn’t end there. Call it bad or good luck for LIV Golf, but only the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Smith, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, and Dean Burmester were able to finish inside the top 15 for some of the majors. The rest of the 17 athletes failed to leave a mark, despite there being some big names on the list. As a result, only 15 of the golfers are eligible for the 2025 majors, with nine of them in the field for just one, and six athletes in all four of the events.

On the better side of things, the Saudi-backed league saw DeChambeau finishing T6 at the Masters, T2 at the PGA Championship, and winning the U.S. Open. The next best placement came from Smith at the Masters when he finished T6 as well, followed by a T7 by Rahm at the Open Championship at Royal Troon. The two of them alone might find it hard to carry the PIF-funded circuit on their backs, despite the Spaniard emerging as the season-long Individual Champion.

Rahm and DeChambeau dominate the 2024 LIV Golf season

Two wins, alongside four other podium finishes. All of these came from just 12 starts. Impressed? Well, there’s more, for the Spanish golfer also finished inside the top 10 in all of the LIV Golf tournaments he teed off in 2024, not to mention topping the leaderboard ahead of Joaquin Niemann. He was able to put up a figure of 235.17 points to claim the title of champion, the same one that Talor Gooch was awarded back in 2023.

DeChambeau, on the other hand, dominated the team competition through his Crushers GC squad including Anirban Lahiri, Charles Howell III, and Paul Casey. They won three of the 13 tournaments while finishing on the podium for four other events and clinching the top spot on the leaderboard. Impressive, if you consider the consistency. But despite the performance showcased in LIV Golf this year, the picture for the 2025 majors does seem quite bleak.
