Tony Romo might be playing with a LIV Golf captain now, but the gridiron icon’s heart lies in the PGA Tour. Romo will be the next guest on Bryson DeChambeau’s ‘Break 50’ series, and from the banter-filled teaser, it’s evident they had fun.

But don’t think that means Romo has moved on from his PGA Tour quest—absolutely not. The familiar figure of the 6’2” Dallas native will be there in this year’s Q-School pre-qualifier as well.

The current CBS football analyst signed up for the pre-qualifier at Sand Creek Station on September 18-20. A three-tier qualifier will follow the first stage, and only the top five after the final stage will become PGA Tour cardholders.

This is the third straight time the former QB is trying his luck at the pre-qualifier. Last year, Romo shot back-to-back rounds of 6-over before withdrawing. A year prior, the 44-year-old scraped together a T65. Interestingly, Romo was also in the field of the 2018 pre-qualifier, the only time he advanced from the initial stage.

Romo, however, carded 13-over to miss the cut in the first stage. Scottie Scheffler, the current world No. 1, was his playing mate. Both received their Korn Ferry Tour card. Romo played three KFT tournaments in 2019-20, missing the cut in two and withdrawing from one.

The 44-year-old last played in the Utah Open, barely managing a last-place finish among those who made the cut. Before that, Tony Romo netted a T38 at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe. He is a three-time champion of the tournament. Per Golf.com, Tony Romo plays at a +2.6 handicap index from Dallas National Golf Club.

The pre-qualifier will run from Wednesday to Friday, so you can expect to see Tony Romo back in the booth with Jim Nantz. It remains to be seen if Romo’s dream will be fulfilled. If not, it will be a double heartbreak for the NFL star.

The Crushers GC captain has already dropped a teaser for his upcoming collaboration with Tony Romo. DeChambeau runs a series where he partners with amateur or celebrity golfers to break 50. Previously, former POTUS Donald Trump and two-time major champion John Daly have appeared as guests.

In the teaser, Romo asked DeChambeau about his favorite Dallas QB. Probably Romo knew he wouldn’t hear his name. But did he think the reigning U.S. Champion would throw Dak Prescott in his face? Likely not. He had to look away. DeChambeau wasn’t done, however.

Wait, I just remembered, sorry, Troy Aikman.”  Now, that was always going to crush him. To Aikman’s three Super Bowls, Romo has, well, none. Nevertheless, it was a good bit of banter, and perhaps more will follow when DeChambeau drops the entire clip on his YouTube channel on September 10. But evidently, nothing was enough to push Tony Romo away from his PGA Tour plans.
