Greg Norman followed his splendid golf career by building a stunning business empire. He now has a net worth of $400 million, and it definitely shows in his lavish lifestyle. From fancy cars to even fancier houses, Norman has owned it all. In fact, one of his most prized possessions was his Jupiter Island home. The house was the talk of the town when he bought it. But what many don’t know is that the shark would never have found his dream home had it not been for another golf great, Jack Nicklaus.

Norman and the golf legend shared an extremely close bond back in the day, despite being rivals on the course. The Shark has received assistance from Nicklaus on numerous occasions, including once with his game. And in 1991, it was with his house.

Back in the mid-1980s, the Shark had grown tired of living in Orlando, surrounded by buildings and structures. That’s when the spaciousness and layout of a New England-style house began fascinating Norman. He wanted nothing more than a house near the water so that he could spend time boating and also remind him of the house on the Great Barrier Reef where he grew up.

That’s when the 18-time major winner stepped in and helped out. “Jack Nicklaus called me and told me about the house,” Greg said in The Palm Beach Illustrated in 2014. The Shark was intrigued by his close friend’s call. “He said I needed to look at it,” said the 20-time PGA Tour winner. “So I did and I bought it the same day.”

Nicklaus had picked out the perfect house for the Australian golfer. Along with being open and spacious, it had history. It was an eight-acre property that was built in 1902. It stretched across the Intracoastal Waterway to the ocean, providing water for the Shark. The house also had a wine cellar, which appealed to the wine enthusiast golfer.

The fact that the two-time major winner instantly bought the Jupiter Island house shows how much he loved it. His wife, Kirsten Kutner, too, realized his love for the house. “It’s a compound that he doesn’t ever have to leave, and it gives Greg the privacy he really seeks,” she said. “We’re very private, and our life is very intimate here.” This aspect of the house is depicted in its name too, ‘Tranquility.’

The couple loved their seclusion from the world on their 8-acre property, despite it costing nearly $5 million when he bought it. With a few changes like redoing the kitchen and adding in a gym and putting greens, the Australian golf legend had made the house perfect for him.
