Jane Spicer was just another small-town businesswoman who had a modest business selling puppets and golf head covers. Her business was running well. Young and amateur golfers on the courses of Arizona and Southern California were fond of the funny head covers. One day in 1988, a 40-something woman walked in the Big Canyon Country Club in California to buy a head cover for her son.
Kultida Woods was a loving mother, who wanted her son to know that, although she couldn’t accompany him to the golf courses, she still wanted him to feel her presence while practicing. Nine years later, Eldrick Woods, a young chap of 22 crashed into the golf world like a meteorite, winning The Masters with a record-breaking 12-point margin. The Tiger headgear that her mother brought for her from Jane Spicer was still on his Titleist driver. For Spicer, this brought a sea change in her business that she could never imagine.
The Major victory that changed everything for both

Since 1988, Jane Spicer’s and Tiger Woods’ fates ran parallel to each other, without any of them knowing. Come 1997, Woods was the hottest prospect in the golf world, and Spicer’s business was a runaway success.
From April 13, when Woods was adorned with a green jacket till December 1997, Spicer received over 30,000 orders of the said Tiger head. Cut to 2023, her company, according to Lake Country Record-Bee, Daphne Head Covers is booming with a 400% increase in revenue with a presence in Asia, and Africa.
Spicer, however, hadn’t crossed paths with Woods till 2015 when he came to play in the Phoenix Open. It was an encounter the entrepreneur still recalls fondly. Woods came towards her to give a big hug and thank her. It was somewhat puzzling for the old woman as she thought she should be the one doing the thanking.
His mother sewed “Love Always, Mom” on the back of the headcover.

Frank, as fans adorably call the Tiger head, has been through thick and thin with the 15-time-Major Winner. His caddie from 1999 to 2011, Steve Williams, revealed that the 82-time-PGA-tour winner used to look at it as a lucky charm. Tiger Woods has only played two tournaments in 2023 – Genesis Invitational where he finished at 45 on the leaderboard and then the Masters, where he withdrew after making the cut. Meanwhile, last month, fans spotted him caddying for his son at the Notah Bogey III Junior Championship.

Since then, Woods has been seen practicing twice. Most recently, TGR Live posted a video of Woods taking a wedge shot at Pebble Beach. Although there has not been any official update on his return, fans speculate the 15x major winner might grace the green as soon as November.
