Golfing legend Tiger Woods and musical sensation Justin Timberlake have joined forces on the sports bar chain, T-Squared Social. They trailblazed a collaboration to convert a historical cinema in St. Andrews, Scotland into a sports bar. This comes as part of the Nexus Luxury Collection, jointly owned by Timberlake, Woods, and others, and follows the successful opening of the bar in the concrete jungle – New York City.

Scottish locals were clearly not enthused by the St Andrews proposal. A petition to their council reached as many as 7,500 signatures, with the town’s population of 16,930 residents. Now, Woods has embarked on another new project worth $12 million but this time in his home state, Florida.

Going back to Woods and Timberlake’s proposal to make St Andrews the home of one of their sports bars, the main concern for Scottish residents is that it would be disrespectful to their rich heritage. They fear future generations could be denied the chance to experience this cultural landmark. Especially as its an integral part of their city’s identity and pride. St Andrews Film Festival founder and director Boris Bosilkov has dubbed the proposal “American-driven gentrification” of Scottish identity, and many share this sentiment.
