He wanted his son to get married only after he turned 30. Late Earl Woods talked to a TV Guide for an article and expressed his wish for his son. He said, “I don’t see Tiger marrying before 30, if then.” The then 25-year-old golfer was reaching great heights. However, he married his former wife in 2004.

Woods’ father only wanted his son to focus on his game. He said, “Because he has a lot to accomplish in the game of golf. And let’s face it, a wife can sometimes be a deterrent to a good game of golf.” Earl Woods spent his life shaping his son into the outstanding golfer he is today. Therefore, he did not want any distractions for his son whatsoever.

The reason behind such advice was the teachings of Earl. He was Tiger’s coach, and if your coach says something, you listen to it. And no one knows you better than your parents. Earl said, “The level he’s at, the finite little problems like that would destroy him.” He knew his son was not ready to bode well for a marriage.
