Phil Mickelson is one of the finest golfers and the first from the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf. He has made some remarkable achievements in his over three decades of career. And when you are a golfer, your coach, as well as a caddie, knows you like no one else. The same is the case for Mickelson and his former caddie, Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay.
He caddied 25 years for Mickelson and he and hence would have had some stories which are unknown to fans. He is now with Justin Thomas. But he has a loop of stories about Mickelson, which will leave many in shock. As Mackay finally spoke up about the 41 times winner on the PGA Tour, he revealed some aspects.

Shocking revelations about Phil Mickelson
Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay, recently appeared at ‘GOLF’s Subpar Podcast’. There, he shared many stories of his time with Thomas and Phil Mickelson. The highlight was a funny incident that happened during his time with Thomas that reminded him of Mickelson.

He picked up the story of WGC-FedEx St. Jude in 2020. In the first round, Thomas played a bad tee shot and sent it to the right side of the green. Bones’ experienced caddie brain started working immediately. He ran ahead of Thomas to figure out the next shot and clear the area. The PGA Tour member had 167 yards to the pin.
There was a little space in trees for the shot, so he started moving cable, stake, and ShotLink equipment, and kept it all on the side. He stood up, waiting for Thomas, but he wasn’t there. But Thomas was pitching it out sideways. Then Mackay realized his time with Mickelson where he understood the importance of gaps. He said, “Oh, that’s right, I caddied for Phil for 25 years and if there was a gap, there was no question where we were going.”

How did the series of stories begin?
Mickelson and Mackay met for the first time during a practice round in 1992 during Players Championship. Mackay was the caddie of Scott Simpson, and he was playing with Gary McCord. At the same course, Phil Mickelson was there with his father, Sr. Phil, on his bag. After the match, Mickelson was signing autographs for his lovely friends and the funniest thing happened. He turned to Mackay and asked, “Are you interested?”
Mackay recalled everyone was interested in his autograph.
