Still one of the most talented players on the circuit, Nelly Korda’s season has gone a little awry in recent months. The 24-year-old missed the cut at the Cognizant Founders Cup last month, before making a last-minute exit from the Mizuho Americas Open.
However, the following week will be crucial in Korda’s golf calendar. With the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship set to commence, is the former major winner fit enough to participate in the event?

Nelly Korda’s troubles explored
The former World No.1 made headlines recently after opting out of the Mizuho Americas Open in the eleventh hour. Korda later followed up with an explanation on her Instagram stories, where she condemned back pain as the reason for her absence.
However, the 2020 Summer Olympics Gold medalist didn’t disclose a timeline for her injury. Following the withdrawal, Korda didn’t tee up at the succeeding ShopRite LPGA Classic and isn’t on the list for the Meijer LPGA Classic event.

But Korda’s record at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, coupled with the importance of the major, could force a quick return. It is to be noted that she is qualified to attend the event as per the event criteria.

The younger of the Korda sisters won the 2021 edition of the PGA Championship, which turned her into a household name. The talented golfer secured victory with a 19-under par, which remained three strokes off her nearest challenger.
Korda has been at the end of countless expectations since then. She has repaid that faith to some extent, having won seven other LPGA Tour events to go with the world’s number one title.
However, she has succumbed to pressure at numerous major championships. In her young career, Korda has racked up nine top-10 finishes at the game’s most prestigious events, albeit recording a solitary victory.
