The world of golf never rests. There is always some important event going on, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. The Horizon Irish Open 2023 is currently underway at the Kildare county in Ireland at the K Club since the 7th of September, and it looks like one prolific professional is playing footsie with his chances on the cut line.

Irishman Padraig Harrington is one of the most appreciated players on the golf course with a zeal for the game that is hardly replicated. The last few days have turned out to be not so great for him since he has failed to make the Ryder Cup team. However, the Irish golfer is far from disheartened. Instead, he is fighting a battle of his own in Ireland this week to make the cut.

Round 1 did not fare too well for the 3x Major winner. he finished very low on the Horizon Irish Open leaderboard with a 1-over 73. In round 2, he made up for his disappointing finish on Thursday. On Friday, he swung 5 birdies on the 4th, 6th, 10th, 16th, and 18th to finally improve his score with a 3-under 69 which helped him finish with a 2-under in total. “It was nice weather and we did hit some good shots out there, balls spinning back on the greens so there was plenty of excitement,” said the Irish pro after reigniting hope for a weekend game.

Harrington fared at T57 on the Irish Open leaderboard that is led by Shubhankar Sharma. After his second round, the PGA Tour Champions’ player is toeing the cut line while he is expected to climb 10 spots to T47. He seems pleased with his performance and admitted, “It really was a great crowd, this is Friday morning I’m on the cut line and they are cheering away.” Even though he missed a spot in the Ryder Cup team this year, the pro golfer is looking onward and upward to a battle for the title at the Tournament in his home country.

The prolific golfer has certainly delivered exquisite surprises on the golf course in the past at the two Open Championships where he claimed the title consecutively in 2007 and 08 and the PGA Championship in 2008 as well. His fans are certainly hoping that he will surpass the cut line and play over the weekend.

Did Harrington want to play at Ryder Cup 2023?

Earlier this year, the pro golfer who recently joined the PGA Tour Champions despite his youthfulness shared that he would like to set aside his dates for the 2023 Ryder Cup. However, he did admit that he would only adjust his calendar if he was seriously considered for Team Europe.

The 52-year-old golfer also admitted that he is having a good time in the senior tournaments while still playing rounds with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour players. He has the best of both worlds.
