Defending champion, Scottie Scheffler ,was one of the favorites to claim a second successive Masters title in the lead-up to the event. He certainly didn’t disappoint, with a score of four-under-par in the opening round. While it didn’t rocket Scheffler to the top of the standings, he ended up emulating other records with his fast start.
The blistering Masters record of Scottie Scheffler continues
The 26-year-old has a healthy record at Augusta National. He teed up for the first time at the 2020 Masters Tournament, where he finished tied for 19th place. He made a slight improvement the following year, before clinching the illustrious Green Jacket in 2022.

But his run of form in the past has been nothing short of extraordinary. Despite finishing outside the top 10 in 2021, Scheffler shot two under-par rounds on the weekend. He followed that up with remarkable scores of 69, 67, 71, and 71 in his victorious campaign to make it six under-par rounds at the Masters.
Yesterday’s opening round of 68 was Scheffler’s seventh under-par round at the Masters Tournament. The score was also the lowest by a defending champion in the opening round since Tiger Woods shot the same score in 2020.

While Scheffler’s accomplishments are noteworthy, it remains short of the record at the tournament. Indeed, the laurels go to Tiger Woods, who once went ten consecutive rounds without conceding par.
The timeline for the extraordinary run started from the third round of the 2000 Masters Tournament, where the golf great finished fifth. The years that followed were probably Woods’ best on the course, where he racked up a multitude of wins all over the world.
At the iconic Augusta National, Woods returned to winning ways in the 2001 Masters before defending his title with another victory the following year. Sensationally, he went those two years without conceding par in a round, which unsurprisingly swept away the rest of the field.

The tournament presents an opportunity for Scheffler to equal the famed record. The 26-year-old needs to shoot under-pars for the rest of the event, similar to what Woods did back in 2002.
