The last match of Saturday’s fourballs was between Rory McIlroy & Matt Fitzpatrick against Wyndham Clark & Patrick Cantlay. The match was tied till the 16th hole. Patrick hit two birdies back to back and won the match for the American team. Patrick’s 43-ft putt at the 18th hole was just remarkable.

As Cantlay celebrated by waving his imaginary hat, a theme going around the whole day, his team members joined in too. Joe LaCava, Cantlay’s caddie did the same but stood in full sight of Rory as he was waiting to make a putt and tie the hole.

Eventually, McIlory and Fitzpatrick lost the match one down. It was shown that while asking Joe to move, some words were exchanged. Team Europe’s Captain, Luke Donald, defended his player in the press conference. Donald said, “He (Rory McIlroy) politely asked Joe to move aside. He was in his line of vision. He stood there and didn’t move for a while and continued to wave the hat, so I think Rory was upset about that…and I understand that.”

The captain also pointed out that despite the aggression associated with the time-honored tournament, they “want to do it in the right way.” They dragged the altercation to the parking lot. Video of Rory screaming as his teammate Shane Lowry shoved him into a car surfaced on the internet. The visuals of other teammates are also out, and the fans had fun with it!
