Scottie Scheffler has proven his superiority all year long as he has dominated both, the PGA Tour and the OWGR leaderboard. The world no. 1 golfer has recently come off hot in a convincing win at the 2024 Hero World Challenge and is ready to overthrow his opponents once again. He has also been compared to the GOAT, Tiger Woods due to his performances in the past few years. There is no doubt that Scheffler is in top form, but how has his whole career been as compared to the other three competitors in the event?

Since turning pro in 2018, Scheffler has had a few winless seasons. However, in 2022, Mr. Inevitable finally broke the deadlock and got his first PGA Tour title. Since then, he has not looked back. The man from Ridgewood has since won 13 PGA Tour events, including 2 Masters Tournament wins in 2022 & 2024. This season alone, Scheffler has bagged 7 official wins and victory at another unofficial event; the Hero World Challenge. Out of the 19 events he has played in 2024, the drama slayer has made every single cut and finished in the top 10 on 16 different occasions. He has truly dominated professional golf all year long.

Rory McIlroy

What’s your perspective on:

Will Rory McIlroy finally get his revenge on Bryson DeChambeau in this high-stakes showdown?

Have an interesting take?

Rory McIlroy has been in the business as a pro since 2007. The 35-year-old has been at the top of the helm a few times in his career. His best season came in 2014 when he won 4 titles, including the PGA Championship. But he is still one of the most beloved golfers in the world and quite a dominant player ranked at 3 on the OWGR board.

Ever since turning pro, McIlroy has won 26 titles. This includes 4 major wins; 2 PGA Championships, 1 U.S. Open, and 1 Open Championship. McIlroy has also captured multiple DP World Tour victories, a league that he remains loyal to. However, Wee-Mac has been a ‘nearly’ man for almost all of 2024. Apart from adding a few more DP World Tour titles to his name, the Irishman ‘nearly’ captured his 5th major win at the 2024 U.S. Open, only losing out to Bryson DeChambeau by 1 stroke. However, at the end of the year, he was able to bag his 6th Order of Merit and the 2024 DP World Tour Championship back in November. There is no doubt that McIlroy is in good form and will be looking for retribution from LIV Golf’s DeChambeau.

Bryson DeChambeau

Bryson DeChambeau has had a tremendous year, not only winning a major but also finding success outside of professional golf. From his success as a YouTube golf content creator to his association with the 47th POTUS; Donald Trump, DeChambeau’s popularity and influence have grown in multifolds. He also bagged a lucrative contract with Reebok in the past few days.

Debuting in the PGA Tour back in 2016, the mad scientist captured 8 victories before joining LIV Golf. He added one more to his name by winning the 2024 U.S. Open for the 2nd time in his career by beating Rory McIlroy. When it comes to LIV Golf, DeChambeau has not had much luck in the competition. While his performance has still been commendable finishing 8th on the individual leaderboard, his team, Crushers GC, has not faired well by replicating his individual ranking and finishing at 8th as well. Known for his unique approach to golf, Bryson DeChambeau will definitely be a man to look out for the PGA team.

Brooks Koepka

Like DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka has also been a dominant player in the PGA Tour and LIV Golf as well. With a tad bit more experience than his partner, Koepka brings a lot more experience to the team. The Okeeheelee Kid has never shied away from rising to the occasion and delivering breathtaking performances.

Making his debut in the PGA Tour in 2012, Brooks Koepka has been a dominant force everywhere he went. 5 of his 9 PGA Tour wins have been in majors, 3 of which are the PGA Championship. Astonishingly, Koepka also has 13 runner-up finishes, more than anyone else on this list. In LIV Golf, Koepka and his team have faired better than DeChambeau and Crushers GC. While not particularly dominating the season, Brooks Koepka has finished 5th on the individual leaderboard. Ironically, just like DeChambeau and his team, Smash GC have also finished in the same position as their captain, 5th on the team standings.

It will be interesting to see how each of the players gets along with their fellow teammates while trying to outplay the opposition. Considering the seasons all of them had, Team PGA Tour seems to be the favorite with Scottie Scheffler leading the scoreboard. However, considering all the talent on the MGM Resorts’ Shadow Creek golf course in Las Vegas, the pendulum can swing either way by the end.
