Being in the bad book of Rory McIlroy is not good for any golfer. The Irishman is a master at the sports and commands a legion of fan base. So when Michael Block had some tough things to say about him, the former faced the wrath of fans. And sharing his take on the matter even McIlroy himself shared his thoughts.

But by the stroke of luck, Block has unlocked an unexpected achievement days after McIlroy threw him under the bus by making some harsh criticism. As Block revels in the happiness of his latest accomplishment, let’s take a look at what he has got to celebrate.

Michael Block earns special leverage in next year’s tournaments

McIlroy was paired with Michael Block at the final round of the 2023 PGA Championship. After the game when Block was asked about the difference between his game and Rory’, he said “What I would shoot from where Rory hits it would be stupid. I think I’d be one of the best players in the world.”

The response was considered disrespectful by many. At that time McIlroy didn’t respond. But in his latest appearance on the Golf Subpar Podcast, he gave a reply. He started by complimenting Block but quickly added that he found it hard to believe that Block could ever become the number one player.

However, just a week after Rory’s big comment, Block has an amazing achievement to his name. He has earned an exemption into both The ‘24 Farmers Insurance Open and The American Express after winning the Southern California section PGA Professional Championship. The two events are non-invitationals played in the section.

These are big opportunities for Block who hasn’t played in that many tournaments.

And giving a response to Block he dropped a bombshell by saying, “No disrespect to Blockie, he is an unbelievable shorthand. But.. he struggles to get the 160 ball speed with the driver…I still think I’d be able to manage a way to get inside the top 100 in the world off his tee shots. But whether he would be number one in the world? Well, I find that hard to believe.”
