The 34-year-old golfer has been a pretty vocal supporter of the PGA Tour ever since LIV Golf came into the picture. But the press conference at RBC Canadian after the amalgamation news was extremely uncomfortable for the golfer. It appears that the impact of that uncomfortable press conference is still continuing to this day.
McIlroy was scheduled to speak to the media on Tuesday at Hoylake but at the last moment, the golfer decided to sit out of it. The authorities at The Open confirmed the news and wrote, “We have been advised that Rory McIlroy will no longer be taking part in a preview press conference tomorrow morning.”
The authorities apologized for the inconvenience the cancellation might have caused and said that they “will be endeavoring to secure preview quotes, which will be made available for media use.” Rory McIlroy has been the winner of the 2014 The Open at the same venue, and based on his current form he is one of the top contenders for sure. He is aware of the course and all the challenges it poses.

After an uncomfortable RBC Canadian Open press conference, the golfer decided to skip his pre-tournament US Open press conference as well. Not only this, but he also made the decision to sit out of the Genesis Scottish Open’s press conference, a tournament that he won last week.
This cancellation on his end comes as no surprise as he continues to maintain his less media presence vow before the final major tournament of men’s golf. The golfer hopes to continue his performance and end his nine-year major drought. His last major victory came in 2014 when he won the PGA Championship.
