Sergio Garcia made a pretty bold decision when he joined LIV Golf leaving behind his DP World Tour legacy. Calling it ‘the future of golf’, the player allegedly signed a $40 million deal with the Saudi League. Although things have been going pretty well for the golfer on the breakaway circuit, he is currently on the verge of stepping into a deep puddle. And it has everything to do with his involvement in the DP World Tour vs LIV Golf controversy!
Why is LIV Golf’s Sergio Garcia in DP World Tour trouble?
LIV Golf Tour has been facing serious trouble for the past few weeks ever since they got into a legal scuffle with the DP World Tour. As per a recent ruling by Sports Resolutions, the Tour was allowed to impose fines on several LIV Golf defectors for participating in the Saudi events without proper permission. And notably, the Tour handed out huge fines to 17 DP World Tour members including Lee Westwood, Patrick Reed, Ian Poulter, Martin Kaymer, and Sergio Garcia.

DP World Tour announces 16 of the 17 players sanctioned £100,000 for playing LIV Golf events and violating the circuit's conflicting event policy have paid the fines. Sergio Garcia, who resigned his tour membership this week, did not play the fine.

However, as per the Tour’s recent statements, Garcia is currently the only one out of all 17 players, who has not been able to pay the fine yet! “Sergio García has not paid his £100,000 fine, nor has he given any indication that he intends to,” the tour said in its statement. “We will therefore take appropriate action if he continues not to respect the Sport Resolutions panel’s decision.”

As per further reports, the Tour claimed that the fines were imposed based on “serious breaches of the Tour’s Conflicting Tournament Regulation”. And while players like Westwood and Reed have already paid the amount, Garcia still holds back as the only one to pay the due fine.
Why did Greg Norman not pay Sergio Garcia’s fine?

Although reports suggest that all the players except Sergio Garcia have paid their fines, the golf world was expecting Norman to bear these heavy amounts. And we say this as the golf shark made pretty confident statements about taking care of any fines imposed on the players. “All the players I’ve told: ‘We’ve got your back’. We’ll defend, we’ll reimburse and we’ll represent – simple as that.’” he said in his interview during LIV Golf’s first event. However, there have been no reports of him paying the amounts on behalf of any of his golfers, let alone Sergio Garcia!
