You’d think Nancy Lopez’s chat with Nelly Korda at the Upper Montclair Country Club was about golf. After all, the latter just matched the former’s historical five-straight-win streak. Perhaps a little word of advice from the 67-year-old to the two-time Major winner. But all Lopez could talk about was Korda’s Met Gala outfit that garnered a lot of praise from the golf world. And, while talking about Korda’s gorgeous floral dress, the veteran also found her bridal gown.

Lopez, a founder of the LPGA Tour, was speaking at the Cognizant Founders Cup press conference on Thursday. Among many things, Korda’s Monday appearance at the Manhattan also came up. And the three-time Major winner revealed she has also found just the perfect bridal costume for the 25-year-old.

The red and green floral costume by Oscar de la Renata got Nancy Lopez gasping for breath. “When I saw her I said, oh, my gosh. That was a beautiful dress she had on. It was fun when I got here because I talked to her about that. I said, your dress was awesome.” Not just that, Korda also shared two pictures of alternative dresses she had.

One Lopez didn’t like that much. However, she thought the other one would suit Korda when she walked down the aisle, with her boyfriend, Andreas Athanasiou. With a slight modification, however. It was black and long. But Lopez wanted her to make a similar one in white. “I told her she needs to make it white and wear it when she gets married. It was a beautiful gown to get married in.

But not just her apparel, Lopez touched upon Korda’s game as well. At the Chevron Championship, the 48-time LPGA Tour winner said, Nelly Korda hasn’t yet realized what she can achieve. At the Cognizant Founders Cup, Lopez doubled down on her praise for Nelly Korda.

Why does Lopez think Nelly Korda can win more?

Lopez believes Korda is in a different headspace. In the run of form that she is in, Korda doesn’t think of hitting a bad shot or missing the fairways. The veteran recounted her own experience, “I always say the fairways for me got wider. Greens got bigger. Holes were bigger. And you never thought about hitting a poor shot.” Nelly Korda is at a point where the tournaments get a little bit easier.

Lopez even went back five years when Nelly Korda made her Solheim Cup debut under Juli Inkster. Lopez was the assistant captain at that time. Although the USA failed to secure a victory on European soil, Korda raked in 3.5 points.

Nancy Lopez said in the press conference, “I saw it a lot earlier than Chevron when I was her pod leader in the Solheim Cup as an assistant captain to Juli.” She even told her husband that when the youngster realizes the true strength of her game, she is going to dominate the LPGA Tour.

Korda, vying for the sixth straight victory, was four shots away from the leaders after 36 holes. If she manages to win, she would be the first to do that on the LPGA Tour. Are you excited to see Korda create history in female golf?
