LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have been at odds ever since the new league emerged last year. Although, of late, it seemed like the fiery battle between the two had died down, all the while each side had been making its own moves. Just recently, LIV Golf made a play flaunting its future vision, thinking six years ahead, and now the PGA Tour too has responded with its own change!
The LIV Golf vs. PGA Tour saga continues
A lengthy chess match has been ongoing between the two sides for nearly a year now. With both LIV and the PGA Tour making their moves in trying to gain the upper hand, the Saudi-backed tour’s most recent performance came just days ago, with a multi-year partnership.

Following their dream of a global league, LIV has been hosting events across various continents this season. And now they’re thinking ahead! They recently finalized a 6-year partnership with Sentosa Golf Club (SGC), in Singapore, where the league heads at the end of this month. Hence, until 2028, a Singapore event is certain to be on the new series’ schedule.

While many in the golf world have been wondering if this gives LIV the upper hand, the PGA Tour has already struck back. Just hours ago, they announced a change in management for the most prestigious event on the Tour, The Players Championship as per its website. With this change, they’re looking forward to furthering the tour’s growth!
Lee Smith takes the lead
Replacing Jared Rice, Lee Smith will now take the lead as the Executive Director of The Players Championship. Rice will not just be stepping down, but in fact, is taking on another major role with the help of the Tour as the lead for business development for the TOUR’s Championship Management portfolio of events.

While Smith will head The Players and lead growth and development on that end, Rice will transition into the role of Senior Vice President, Sales and Market Development, for Championship Management. Rice’s even portfolio includes many huge Tour events like the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the TOUR Championship, among others. He will certainly be focused on growing these just like he was with the players.
