After Zach Johnson declared his picks last week, yesterday was Donald’s turn to announce his picks. He went with Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Nicolai Højgaard, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, and Sepp Straka. Gearing up for the anticipated event, Donald attended the media conference in Marco Simone, Rome yesterday after the announcement.  The European captain answered many questions

When asked if he was surprised by Johnson’s picks, especially that of Thomas which got a lot of attention, Donald said he wasn’t super surprised and hadn’t paid much attention to it. He said, “I watched the pick show, but to be honest, I’ve been really concentrating on my 12 guys, and getting that certainly didn’t change my thoughts.”

According to Donald, he will be ready with his team of 12 strong to face their opponent come September 29. He continued: “I wanted the 12 strongest that could compete against theirs, and we will be ready.” Donald avoided making a direct comment on Thomas and played safe.

During the last Ryder Cup, Team US defeated Europe by 19–9 and yesterday Donald called it “One of the biggest, if not the biggest margin of defeat that we’ve had as a European side.” And though he accepted the opponent to be strong and called his team underdogs, he expressed his full faith in his team.

I’m confident we have 12 really fearless golfers that are on a mission to write their own history in the game and their legacy. I couldn’t be happier with the 12 I have.” But Donald is also wise enough to not underestimate his enemy whom he calls very strong.
