With Tiger Woods joining the PGA Tour as a board member, commissioner Jay Monahan has emerged with newfound confidence. He is assured of his position and the many positive outcomes of the $3 billion merger that he finalized with LIV Golf in secret.

And just a few days ago he made a bold claim that the future will be in the PGA Tour’s hands. He hinted at being in control of things in the newly-formed tri-partite entity. But LIV loyalist Brooks Koepka has other views. He believes the rebel league is unique and golfer-friendly. Let’s dive in to find out more.

Koepka has been among the staunch supporters of the Saudi-backed league since he joined them. Previously, he has voiced his opinion on how the laid-back terms of LIV are easier to cope with. And it looks like in response to Monahan’s remarks, Koepka has the perfect answer to why LIV is better than other tours.

The Smash GC captain in his latest appearance for LIV’s ‘Fourball’ has sung praises of how LIV players have it much easier than the other players. He said: “The way LIV Golf is scheduled, the whole season set up, I think it’s perfect. You roll right into the majors. You’re not as tired as these other guys when they are playing four days.”

According to Koepka, the special format of the LIV Golf goes easy on the players and is more advantageous. He continued: “There is a whole bunch of advantages I think that we have out here and I think it’s pretty special.”

One day before this, Monica Fee, the Head of Global partnerships for LIV Golf, also shared contrasting views with Monahan. She assured that their “conversations with new partners have been reinvigorated because of the idea of coexistence, finally, in the marketplace”. Fee also confirmed that the LIV’s business will go on as usual. One then wonders why Monahan appeared so confident. Let’s see what he had said not long ago.

Jay Monahan’s bold claims of holding control in the future

While the PGA-PIF Framework Agreement being discussed fervently, Monahan seized an early opportunity to express that the PGA Tour will be in control of the future. He said:“We have put an end to the divisive and distracting litigation. We have safeguards in place to control the future. I am confident we will reach an agreement that will have a positive impact on the PGA Tour and our fans. I’m confident in that.”
