It was only a couple of days ago that Annika Sorenstam teamed up with her son Will McGee for the PNC Championship. Though they didn’t win, it didn’t stop the mother-and-son duo from creating some lifelong memories. As the mother-son duo’s exceptional time ended on the course, things went a bit sideways in the golfer’s personal life.

Mere hours after the PNC Championship’s conclusion, the golfer’s father had to undergo a medical procedure. Sorenstam’s husband just shared an update on her father’s health on Twitter.

While playing at the PNC Championship or even earlier, Sorenstam gave out no information about the medical condition of her father, Tom Sorenstam. But now it has come to light that he was suffering from melanoma. However, he has received treatment for it and is in recovery.

Sorenstam’s husband broke the news on Twitter. He shared that his father-in-law had melanoma taken out of his leg the day before. Talking about the procedure, he said that it “went well.” Expressing his concern about his wife’s father, he wrote, “Praying nothing went to his lymph nodes.”

McGee took the opportunity to praise Tom. He said that his father-in-law “is so much fun. Smart and insanely competitive.” He also praised his wife in the tweet and pointed out the resemblance that father and daughter have. “The apple didn’t fall far,” McGee wrote.

Sorenstam’s father is the driving force behind her career. Recognizing her talent at an early age, Tom encouraged his daughter to face her fears and take on new challenges. The legendary golfer credits her phenomenal golf career to her father and the efforts he made for her.

In a 2019 interview with golfscape.com, the Swedish star revealed how she was shy as a kid and dropped a shot or two at the end of every junior tournament to avoid publicly speaking. But her father caught this pattern and requested tournament organizers make the second- and third-place finishers also speak out. This helps the golfer leave behind her fears.
