The venture of TMRW Sports (pronounced as tomorrow) gave birth to the TGL league in collaboration with the PGA Tour. This innovative league is the brainchild of the legendary Tiger Woods, with Rory McIlroy also on board on the journey. The efforts of the duo are all set to become a reality in January 2024 in the form of the 15-week season.

Initially, the attention to the league may have stemmed from the names attached to it. But presently, it is the new updates that hold the attention of the golf world. From major sports personalities connected to the event to a unique amalgamation of on-field and virtual golf, the start of it just couldn’t come sooner. With the rush of news surrounding the TGL, arguably the most exciting announcement seems to have taken everyone by surprise. Through its Twitter account, TWLegion came forward with an unexpected update on its founder. The tweet announced, “Tiger Woods is scheduled to compete on one of the 6 TGL Golf teams beginning in January.

The tweet caught quick attention, with Woods not having been seen playing the sport for several months now. But with the word out now, the anticipated action is turning more heads than ever. Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Max Homa, Xander Schauffele, Billy Horschel, and Rickie Fowler are the 11 other players who have committed their presence in the league.

In addition to the current player list, there are several other aspects that the golf world can hardly stop talking about. The event is set to host six teams, with three PGA Tour players present in each one. The tournament is going to start in January next year and end in April, thereby covering about 15 weeks.

Furthermore, there have been confirmations on the owners of the two teams up until now. While the Los Angeles team is owned by tennis veteran Serena Williams, along with Alexis Ohanian and Venus Williams. The Boston and New England team found its owner in FSG. Along with the presence of the veteran stars, the unorthodox nature of the tournament is likely to attract its fair share of youngsters.

The news comes as a godsend, especially considering how, of late, only unfortunate news about the 15-time major winner has come to light. From missing out on the US Open to his latest upset, a withdrawal from the fast approaching Open Championship, fans were certainly keenly awaiting an update to see exactly when the golf legend would return to the sport, even if only at a simulator!

Woods’ unfortunate withdrawal from the 2023 Open Championship

Following the second round of the 2023 US Open, unfortunate news greeted the golf audience. According to the sources, Tiger Woods took a step back from the last major of men’s golf. Thus, the competitive field at the Royal Liverpool Golf Course won’t witness the legend taming the greens.

The golf G.O.A.T. has not been able to participate much due to his ankle surgery following his Masters’ withdrawal. As per recent reports, it seems like the recovery, although steadily improving, isn’t as quick as one would hope. The post on his withdrawal also mentioned that Woods has been “moving gingerly with crutches“.
