The LPGA will hold the International Crown at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco from May 4 to May 7. In addition, this will be the first time since 2018 that the event will take place. Eight national teams, each with four players, will compete in the match-play format. Team England, though, has not had a nice run of luck.
Georgia Hall, Charley Hull, Jodi Ewart Shadoff, and Bronte Law made up Team England. However, since Hall and Hull recently withdrew from the competition, the team’s chances of winning were jeopardized. Both Team England and the fans were taken aback by the decision. This is evident from Law’s most recent admission about the departure of two teammates.

World number 10 Georgia Hall and number 17 Charley Hull surely were the face of the English Team at the International Crown. Both of them participated in the JM Eagle LA Championship this past week, with Hull placing T-17 and Hall tying for 44th place. Their English partner, Bronte Law, has voiced her surprise and disappointment at their choice to withdraw from the competition.
When the teams arrived at the location, the 28-year-old Law explained her perspective on her teammates’ abrupt withdrawal. Law was questioned about this current change of events in a press conference. The former LPGA Tour champion was questioned about how she learned that her teammates were quitting. The 28-year-old claimed: “Through Chinese whispers, if you’d like to call it that. Didn’t get any sort of message from the two that decided to not play. Was disappointed about that. But it’s beside the point now. We’re here, and this is our team, and this is Team England.”
Then the English golfer was asked: “Have you heard from them since?“. Law answered the question by saying, ” I’ve had a message from Charley apologizing saying she was sorry she couldn’t play, but that’s it.”
The interviewer then inquired as to when Hull had messaged her. She answered, “Today.”
What is the current situation of Team England?
Number 10, Georgia Hall, and Number 17 Charley Hull were the team’s key players. The remaining members of the team are Jodi Ewart Shadoff, No. 45, and Bronte Law, No. 103. Both are former Solheim Cup competitors. But things did not turn out as expected. Even before a shot was fired at the Hanwha Lifeplus International Crown, Team England undoubtedly lost badly.

When Hall and Hull withdrew, team officials were forced to scramble to find replacements. Their respective physical and mental ailments were the cause of both of them. However, the government quickly announced their replacements. Players from the Ladies European Tour, Alice Hewson, and Liz Young, have been named as substitutes to complete the four-player lineup.
The replacements, Hewson and Young, rank 172nd and 216th, respectively. Hewson has five top-20 finishes this season on the LET, including a tied second at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open. In her 14th season on the tour, Young captured her first LET crown the previous year.
