Danielle Kang has finally made it! Not that she didn’t just a week ago at the 2025 HSBC Women’s World Championship. But the 32-year-old has made the cut at the Blue Bay LPGA 2025 despite a 4-over par 148. Kang, obviously delighted, has been looking for a win for some time now. The last time the American pro won anything on the course was in the 2022 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions.
Her T58 finish in the second round in the 2025 Blue Bay LPGA doesn’t put her in the ideal place for a victory. But it definitely gives her the chance and confidence to continue into the weekend. This will help her get in some practice before the LPGA Tour goes back to the USA. Win or not, it was a moment to celebrate for Danielle Kang. While she may not have thought of it, she was certainly surprised by the hilarious tease from her friend, Ruoning Yin.
Kang shared a story a few minutes ago, tagging Yin, that showed the former holding a knife that was coated with frosting. Apparently, Yin had brought Kang a cake to celebrate the American making the cut at the 2025 Blue Bay LPGA. The caption read, “when your sis gets you the “congrats you finally ‘made the cut’ cake”🤣🎂🥳 @ruoningyin1”. Another story showed a beautiful duo-tone cake, possibly halved with white chocolate frosting on one side and milk chocolate frosting on the other. Kang also added a “🤣🤣🤣 I appreciate this so much @ruoningyin1 💝” on the image, showing her love for Yin’s sweet and humorous act.

This is not the first time Danielle Kang has shown her love for her fellow LPGA Tour players. She had even congratulated Lydia Ko for her amazing win at the 2025 HSBC Women’s World Championship. Kang said, “couldn’t be more proud of my baby sis ❤️ @ lydsko,” celebrating the win of her baby sister on her Instagram. It seems that the American pro has a great dynamic with many of her peers as she considers them all her sisters.

Danielle Kang vs. Ruoning Yin: Blue Bay LPGA 2025
We have already mentioned that Danielle Kang finished the second round with a 4-over par 148. In the first 36 holes, she managed 6 birdies, 8 bogeys, and 1 double bogey. Her double bogey came at the 11th hole in the first round, where she went 2 over in a par 3. Fortunately, she didn’t make the same mistake in the second round, scoring a par to make the cut. Overall, Kang hit the fairway 50% of the time, made the green in regulation 16 out of the 36 times, and had 1 sand save.
Coming to Ruoning Yin, she had 5 birdies and 7 bogeys. That got her a 2-over par 146 after 36 holes. She hit the fairway 19 out of 28 times, managed 25 out of 36 greens in regulation, and didn’t need to make any sand saves throughout the day. Comparing Kang & Yin’s average driving distance, the former had covered 230 yards while the latter managed 265 yards. That’s a 35-yard difference that has contributed to their 2-stroke difference.

What’s your perspective on:
Can Danielle Kang's camaraderie with Ruoning Yin propel her to a long-awaited LPGA victory this season?
Have an interesting take?
Whether either of them can compete for the title, only time will tell. But it will surely be a mountainous task as Nasa Hataoka and Cassie Porter are leading the field with 7-under par 137s. However, they would still be hoping for a great finish going into the 2025 Ford Championship later this month. Lydia Ko will be waiting for both of them in the Arizona event.
