After breaking Tiger Woods‘ record and being represented by the same agency as Woods, Zhang was recently questioned in a press conference for the Mizuho Americas Open about whether she had ever spoken to him. Any suggestions she received from Woods in recent days.
Zhang firmly retorted that, although she had not yet received counsel from Woods, his mere presence had provided her with enough inspiration. She looks up to Woods as a role model and is awestruck by the accomplishments and contributions he has made to the game of golf. She added that Woods occasionally texts her coach, Walker, to inquire about her performance. He also sent his wishes to Zhang. For Zhang, as long as Woods is keeping a tab on her, she is doing great.
“So I never really had any conversations with him, but he did text Coach Walker here and there, oh, congrats to Rose. It just shows that I’m on the right track if he’s able to keep up tabs somewhat of what I’m doing,” Zhang said.
Not only Woods, but Zhang also talks about her major decision.

When asked in the presser, how she decided that it was time for her to be professional? She replied that after doing well in college golf, she realized that she had the potential to go for it professionally. Zhang considered her choice carefully before making it. She added that because her family, coaches, and agents all backed her, she found it simple to make the choice. Whatever happens professionally, she still has time to make amends because she is still a student.
“I think the logistics part of being able to go to school while being a professional also played a huge role in me deciding to turn pro,” Zhang said.
After her decision, the USGA granted her a special exemption for the U.S. Women’s Open and the AIG Women’s Open at Walton Heath. Well, we can’t wait to see what magic she will bring to the course.
