The 44th edition of the Ryder Cup, which took place at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, announced its winner last Sunday. And this season, Europe won back the trophy with a terrific performance and a score of 16.5, while America stood at 11.5. While most expected the BMW PGA Championship to have ‘fatigued’ the European veterans, their gameplay proved otherwise.

After the game was over, the triumphant soldiers were bestowed with a gaga celebration. Days after the patriotic party was over, one of the European players made an unfeigned confession.

The Ryder Cup week was indeed wild, and the events following the tournament were also unexpected. First, the USA compatriots played loosely from the very start of the game. The Friday foursomes result was extremely devastating for America, given that Europe won all four matches and America won none.

Secondly, one of the European squad members who was in poor form with no event win throughout the season suddenly showed unexpected skills in Rome. If you take a look at Robert MacIntyre’s golf roster, he hadn’t garnered any wins recently. Moreover, he missed the cut in the PGA Championship and sealed an average position at Hoylake.

But his gameplay improved suddenly as the ultimate patriotic showdown teed off. The golfer won two out of the three matches he participated in. He won the Saturday four-balls with Justin Rose against Europe for 3&2. Then the singles against Wyndham Clark for 2&1. Now, days after the winning celebration is over, he made an honest confession in an interview

He said, ” I was in at 3 o’clock I think. I bailed. I knew I had to get that flight home, so I was like, I’ve got to get home. The whole atmosphere was unbelievable from the first day to the last. It was all about being chilled out. A few had PJs on. There wasn’t too many cameras in the room which is a bonus. Just letting your hair down after a hectic week.” He stated this, encompassing the serenity he enjoyed after the week was over.

As Robert relished the victory, there was a Ryder Cup compatriot on the American side who shed tears after his major loss at Rome.
