The Masters Tournament was nothing less than a fully-paid package of entertainment for golf fans. With Tiger Woods’ dramatic return, followed by his unexpected withdrawal, or with Brooks Koepka losing against Jon Rahm in the final round despite playing so well, there was a lot to focus on. However, another big addition to the entertainment this year was the presence of LIV Golf players at Augusta, and the controversies that came along with it.

And believe it or not, it is still not over for some players as one of the LIV Golf defectors made a staggering statement, not about the PGA Tour players, but the Masters Tournament itself! Notably, this Saudi rebel’s questionable claims before Jon Rahm’s victory were quite worrisome!

Augusta National made a huge exception by allowing qualifying LIV Golf players to appear at the tournament. Although it made a lot of PGA Tour fans unhappy, they were still excited to witness the mega-event with a star-studded field. And so, along with 17 other LIV stars, Bubba Watson also made his way to the prestigious course for the special tournament. After all, having won the Green Jacket in 2012 and 2014, the golfer definitely deserved to be among the champions.

Not to forget, Watson joined LIV Golf for a very special reason, and it was not for the lucrative money that he was offered. In fact, unlike any of his fellow players, the two-time Masters Champion mentioned that his son played a crucial role in his decision to join the Saudi league. Moreover, he also made statements like “LIV has a niche, it has a reason,” displaying how badly he wanted to be part of the breakaway circuit. Despite getting a chance to play at the 2023 Masters even after being a LIV golfer, Watson didn’t hesitate to compare the prestigious tournament to an ‘exhibition’.

After missing the cut at Augusta, Watson, per Daily Mail, said, “This is what sports is about. It’s entertaining…The whole golf industry is exhibition. This is exhibition. It is the Masters but it is exhibition. We’re entertainers, right? That’s what we’re doing.”

Bubba Watson’s conspicuous claims about the PGA Tour

After Bubba Watson decided to join LIV Golf, he didn’t only back his own decision but also made shocking revelations about the PGA Tour. According to the golfer, the American League was paying the players guaranteed money ‘behind closed doors’ for their mere appearance at tournaments. And adding to that information, he also disclosed that it had nothing to do with him making the cut or not. “I miss the cut, I still make money. I make the cut, I make extra money,” he claimed.

However, the Tour clearly denied any truth in the golfer’s statements and said it was against the rules. But coming to think of it, do you think that Watson could be right with his claims? Let us know in the comments section!
