4 wins on Jay Monahan’s circuit. Not to mention a major victory at the 2019 U.S. Open. Even then, it appears he has gone ahead and got ‘defeated’ by a non-PGA Tour Pro. Yes, we’re talking exactly about Gary Woodland and the time he lost to Drew Stoltz in a ‘Stinger Competition’. However, the 40-year-old doesn’t seem to want to agree to the loss!
The golfer was seen denying the same in an interview on the SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. But before we get to that, let’s look at what Gravy and The Sleeze discussed before the pro came. They were having a conversation about the time when the latter was shooting some content with Cobra Puma Golf and Woodland and how long the athlete had spent in the make-up chair.
“I may have over-exaggerated that just because Gary was around at the time,” divulged Stoltz comically. “But he was, a full day, sun up to sundown, the first day, and then they had some other little separate shoots that they did at his course… So, on Tuesday, he didn’t even come back. It could’ve been because he lost the stinger contest. Hurt feelings and was probably on the range…” One of them seems to have his story straight and ready. But then what about Gary Woodland, the so-called ‘loser’ of the Stinger Competition himself? Well, he didn’t keep quiet at all either.

“He’s telling lies on air,” accused the PGA Tour Pro as soon as he entered the discussion. “There’s no chance he beat me.” And did he mention any reason behind his reply? You bet he did! “First of all, they had to put the target closer,” recounted Woodland as he narrated his version of events. “He was hitting moonballs. He was closer to the moon than he was to the target initially. Then I finally gave him a tip and told him how to hit it a little lower and hook it in. He got close, but, these are lies…”

It looks like both the golfers, pro and otherwise, are set in their ways to defend themselves when it comes to who won the contest. And for Woodland, it appears he wouldn’t agree to losing the competition anytime soon. But amidst all of this, you might be wondering how much of a good stinger the PGA Tour Pro hits. And is he better than Tiger Woods himself?
Gary Woodland; a stinger analysis!
Many would consider the 48-year-old Woods for hitting the best stingers on the Tour. But that was till the 2019 U.S. Open when Woodland came and took away that title from him. ‘The Woodland Stinger’, as everyone calls it nowadays, helped him claim victory at Pebble Beach. And it was all thanks to the tutelage of his then-coach, Randy Smith.

“I don’t know if I can take credit for much,” said the golfer back in 2019 after the major win. “But if you see that low burner iron that goes about 250 yards, maybe I’ll take a little credit for that because I know we worked on that shot for a really long time.” Interestingly enough, looking back at his stingers, it does seem a bit far-fetched to see him suffer a defeat at the hands of a non-PGA Tour Pro. But then again, if there’s video evidence, then none can refute that, can they?! The fans can only keep their eyes out for the same.
