Is the winner's payout at the Danish Golf Championship enough to attract top-tier talent?

After ten long months, the DP World Tour is nearing the end of the 2024 swing. The last event of the swing phase is the Danish Golf Championship, held at Lubker Golf Resort for the first time. Last year the event was known as Made In Himmerland and saw Rasmus Hojgaard claim victory on his home soil in dramatic fashion. With the grand trophy at stake once again, what are the financial rewards awaiting the winner and others who make the cut?

The tournament began with 156 players and a cut was made after two rounds. Every very professional player who competes and finishes the event is paid. The payout for each player is based on their finish.

Last year, Hojgaard took a check of $552,500 from the $3.25 million total prize purse. It was expected that the purse this year could increase, offering greater financial rewards. But something quite the opposite happened and the DP World Tour reduced the prize purse for the Danish Golf Championship 2024 by $750,000.

So now, the prize money is set at $2.5 million for the 2024 tournament. From this, the winner will amass $425,000, while the runner-up will get $275,000. The Danish Golf Championship is offering the lowest prize purse compared to the BMW Championship, which will give the winner $3.6 million, and the AIG Women’s Open, where the victor will receive $1.425 million.

The top 70 players will receive the prize money share. Still, this isn’t the only incentive the players can win at Lubker Golf Resort over the weekend.

The field at the Danish Golf Championship will include defending champion Rasmus Hojgaard, eyeing his fifth DP World Tour win. He will be joined by eight-time DP World Tour winner Thorbjorn Olesen, and Soren Kjeldsen, who is only the fourth player in DP World Tour history to reach 700 starts. Names such as Romain Langasque, Lucas Bjerregaard, David Ravetto, and last year’s runner-up Nacho Elvira will also be competing. Moreover, we will also see Rasmus’s brother Nicolai H0jgaard take the field.
