Is the rising prize money in women's golf finally leveling the playing field with the men's tour?

The CPKC Women’s Open has once more crowned a first-time LPGA winner – the third consecutive time! In a surprising twist, the 50th edition of the event saw Lauren Coughlin grab the win at the historical Earl Grey Golf Club. Despite two 70-and-over rounds, the American star managed to grab a 2-stroke lead over Japanese pro, Mao Saigo. “Never really thought it would happen,” said Coughlin soon after her win. “But it did.” And now she gets to reap the benefits, which includes a whopping six-figure check!

Last year, Megan Khang clinched her maiden LPGA victory and walked away with $375,000 from a $2.5 million total purse. This year, however, Coughlin will make even more. For the 2024 edition, the Tour’s trend of increased purses has continued, and the CPKC Women’s Open has $2.6 million to be split among the 68 players who made the cut.

Lauren Coughlin, of course, will take the biggest chunk of that – $390,000 – along with other benefits, too, of course. Saigo will settle for $245,246. But they won’t be the only ones taking home a six-figure check. Interestingly, the three remaining golfers in the top five (Jenny Shin, Hae Ran Ryu, and Jennifer Kupcho) stand to receive more than $100,000 this year. Below is exactly how much they and the rest of the field will get: –

Notably, Savannah Grewal and Emily Pedersen tied for 67th and will take home the least amount of the purse. As for Coughlin, she’ll also receive 500 Race to CME Global Championship points, and crucial Rolex Ranking points as well. Coughlin again will take home the most of these. But surprisingly, her rewards for the week didn’t end there!

Lauren Coughlin won the Audit Precision Award at the CPKC Women’s Open

This year, Golf Canada, in partnership with Audi Canada, announced the Audi Precision Award. Debuting this season, the award was to be given to the most precise golfer at the CPKC Women’s Open. Have an interesting take?

At the Earl Grey Golf Club greens, Lauren Coughlin hit 58-of-72 greens in regulation and 38-of-56 fairways. Her best performance of the week came on Day 2, Friday, where she shot a 6-under par while the rest of the field struggled. That day, she hit 10-of-14 fairways and 15-of-18 greens in regulation. In addition to Coughlin’s $25,000 winning check for her precision, another $25,000 will be donated in her name to First Tee-Alberta (a youth development program in golf) by Audi Canada.
