The sixth event on the 2024 LIV Golf calendar is slowly inching closer. Interestingly, the 2023 edition of the Saudi-backed league’s event in Adelaide was a tremendous success among Australian fans. Well, fortunately, it seems the upcoming tournament set to start on April 26 will fare much better, if not the best, for the Greg Norman-led circuit.

A tweet was shared by Greg Norman Jr., the son of the LIV Golf CEO, on his X handle (formerly Twitter), alluding to the event’s success before the start of the same. Meanwhile, many in the community were not too welcoming of the competition’s success, so they went ahead to mock the tournament under the post!

The Australian shark’s son, Greg Norman Jr., divulged how there has been a 150% increase in the sales of tickets at the Grange Golf Club when compared to last year’s numbers. What’s more, consequently, he also went ahead to mention how the event “is going to be a ton of fun,” while pointing out how the course is looking amazing and sharing a video of the same.

Meanwhile, the 2023 edition of the tournament broke records on and off the course as it made a spectacularly successful debut. Interestingly, Greg Norman-led LIV Golf’s first event in Australia brought an official attendance of 77,076, which also included people from  37 different countries among the ticket purchasers.

Back in November 2023, more than 80 percent of the hospitality passes had been sold out, despite increasing the course’s crowd capacity owing to the contest’s success in April. This, in turn, resulted in them looking to increase the capacity a second time. Moreover, all the tickets for the energetic Watering Hole were also snapped up when it was opened last year.

“I’ve been following the numbers by the hour and it’s unprecedented,” said Greg Norman back then when the hospitality was exhausted. Adding on, he stated, “Not surprisingly, Adelaide is again leading the world on showing the real value of LIV Golf and the impact it delivers. Golf is a force for good!” while revealing the insane numbers. However, come 2024, the community doesn’t seem to be too keen on welcoming the news.

New LIV Golf numbers drive netizens into a fervor

A total of 77,076 people attended the event back in 2023. Now, if one were to calculate the increase in ticket sales after expanding seating capacity, it would come to roughly 192,690 fans buying the hospitality passes for the upcoming tournament. But even so, many enthusiasts in social media took to mock the figures as they dished out various comments along the lines of, “So 45 tickets sold as compared to 30?”, “Congrats on the extra 50 people”, and “5 extra tickets? LIV never gives exact numbers just %.” Besides, some even went ahead to sarcastically congratulate the breakaway league for the increase in numbers: “So, from 2 to 5 tickets sold? Good work!”

Fascinatingly, the par-3 Watering Hole at No. 12 has been dubbed as “one of the most raucous arenas” one can find in the sport. Moreover, it boasts an uninterrupted wave of energy, owing to all four hospitality venues, including the Shark Shack, overlooking the greens. Regardless of the hype, many in the community didn’t shy away from taking a jab at the hole. Unfortunately, they went ahead to react, “Utterly pedestrian par 3 with standing water in that trap. LMAOOOOOO,” and also added comments such as “C**p course, c**p tour” under the post.

Even so, Greg Norman Jr. wasn’t too disappointed in seeing the negative responses, as he also replied under his own tweet: “So funny and interesting to me to see so much cope from random folks just flood in on any positive LIV post I make… you know all you do is boost engagement, right? LIV will continue to grow.” Well, it sure is hard to refute that argument! What do you think?
