The effects of the arrest seem to be still haunting Scottie Scheffler! First, at Valhalla, World No. 1 finished his third round with a two over par, which broke his streak of 42 consecutive under-par rounds. Coming to the Colonial Country Club, the 27-year-old finished his opening round of the Charles Schwab Challenge with a score of 2 over 72. It was the first time since the 2023 Tour Champions that Scheffler carded an over-par in an opening round.

A fan page for the Scottie Scheffler fan page on X (formerly Twitter) reported the incident. With the expectation of the 10-time PGA Tour winner to gain his momentum in the upcoming rounds, they wrote, “It was not pretty by any means but Scottie will be out early tomorrow hopefully with a little better driving and putting and a slight bit of replenished energy.”

Scheffler started off the round with two birdies on the first five holes, but he ended up carding two bogeys on the last four holes in the front nine. To add to the misery, Scottie Scheffler dunked his ball into the water on the par-3 13th hole, the only ball to find the water on that hole that day. Although he managed to compound the mistake by spinning the third shot off the green, trying to putt his ball into the rough, he chipped up to around seven feet and missed the putt. This led to a triple bogey six! He tried to recover the score by carding a twelve-foot birdie on the 17th, but it was already too late, and too little an effort. It was his first triple bogey after the one he had carded in the opening round of the Tour Championship last year in August. In between, he enjoyed a total of 843 holes without a triple bogey!

On the morning of the second round of the PGA Championship, Scheffler was arrested due to a big misunderstanding. His arrest immediately caused massive outrage among the golf community. The fans have once again cited the turbulent incident as the reason behind his underwhelming performance at the Fort Worth greens.

The golf world sympathizes with Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler is currently seven strokes behind Charley Hoffman. The 47-year-old has taken the top spot on the leaderboard after the first round at the Colonial Country Club, whereas Scheffler finished the first round with a T79. Taking to the massive change in Scheffler’s gameplay on the greens after unbeatable feats of victory, one of them commented, “They say you are never the same after the first felony.” The arrest occurred as Scheffler was about to enter the gates of the Valhalla Golf Club and left him with four charges against his name, including reckless driving and disregarding signals from the officers directing traffic for the case.

Another user also reflected on the major changes that the 10-time PGA Tour winner has undergone in the past few weeks. Apart from the freshly burdened felony on him, the Schefflers welcomed their first baby on May 8, stating the obvious. One of them commented, “Impossible to score with a newborn and legal action.”

One fan had a few word plays in their pocket when it came to Scheffler’s triple bogey in the first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge, “Bogey in the 3rd Degree.” Two of the four charges against Scottie Scheffler happen to be second-degree assault of a police officer and third-degree criminal mischief. According to the arrest report, Officer Gillis, who was involved in the incident, had sustained “pain, swelling and abrasions to his left wrist.”

It appears the fatigue from the second major might still be troubling Scheffler. One of his fans hopes he would have a better round for the second day on May 24 and wrote, “Hope he can get his game back tomorrow. He looked just a little off today.” Scheffler himself admitted that the whole ordeal took a toll on him and after the conclusion of the second major, he stated, “I typically try to keep the off-course life as quiet as possible, and this week was not that way, so was a bit different in that sense”.”

Another fan was optimistic that even if the entire Charles Schwab Challenge does not work out for him, with the US Open approaching, Scheffler will grab the second win at the Majors this season. They wrote, “Cop ruined him. He’s winning the open.” When the two-time major winner recalled the incident, he had nothing but kind words for the police officers, as he shared, “The officer that took me to the jail was very kind. He was great. We had a nice chat in the car, that kind of helped calm me down. “

Will World No. 1 be able to find his mojo back at the Texas greens this week? Stay tuned to find out what is in store for him!
