The new season has just teed off, and some players are already shining bright with noticeable improvements in their game. Hello, Collin Morikawa! However, for Patrick Cantlay, the start of the first event looks as bland as his last season, except for the sprinkle of drama. Cantlay ended up carding a total of 73 at The Sentry in Hawaii, a performance that included a surprising 9 bogies over four rounds.

It wasn’t all bad, though, as in the final round, he did manage to get a beautiful approach shot that led to a birdie on the par-4 3rd hole. Still, it was tough to ignore the staggering difference—183 points—between him and the event’s winner, Hideki Matsuyama. While Matsuyama walked away with a hefty $3,600,000, Cantlay left the tournament with an empty balance.

As per the post on X by Monday Q Info, Cantlay’s struggles on the greens are becoming apparent. The post read, “*Whispers Patrick Cantlay is struggling a bit. No top 10s in last 6 events (including an 18 and 30 player field). No wins last year. And starts off with a T15 at Sentry. Its a high standard he has set, but for him, that is a pretty significant slump. The pro has been far from the top 10 in his last six events. At the Hero World Challenge, he managed a score of 7 under par but still finished a considerable distance behind the winner, Scottie Scheffler, who dazzled with a -25. The 32-year-old found himself sitting in 11th place there, and it was a similar story at the Tour Championship, where he faltered even further, finishing T17.

His performances at the BMW Championship, FedEx St. Jude Championship, and The Open Championship reflected the same pattern. With his last five events not producing the results he hoped for, the Sentry makes it his sixth one till now. It’s a tough time for the pro, but you’ve got to hand it to his fans. They’re really rallying behind him. One fan expressed their support, saying, “Maybe if he took more time between shots. Maybe he’s just rushing his routine.” That looks like some solid support, isn’t it?

Then there’s another social media user who confidently stated, “He will be fine,” clearly showing their unwavering trust in their star. The pro might have lost many titles, but impressively, his fans are still there. And why not? Look at his glamorous scoreboard.

The 32-year-old has eight PGA Tour victories, which is no small feat. His career began in November 2017 with his first win at the Shriners Hospital for Children Open. He finished with a score of nine under par. In June 2019, Cantlay won the Memorial Tournament, scoring an amazing 269. It was impressive that he won by two strokes, leaving Australian Adam Scott in the dust. Interestingly, he returned in June 2021, winning once more at the Memorial Tournament.

But that’s not all, Cantlay’s talent truly shined through at the Zozo Championship in October 2020, where he set the scoreboard high with a stunning score of −23 (265). It was more striking as he edged out Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas by just one stroke. In August 2021, he won the BMW Championship. And just three months later, he achieved another milestone by winning the Tour Championship, securing the 2021 FedEx Cup.

His collaborative win alongside Xander Schauffele at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April 2022 was another highlight, as they finished with a remarkable score of −29 (259), winning by two strokes over Sam Burns and Billy Horschel. Plus, Cantlay confidently defended his BMW Championship title in August against Scott Stallings. An enthralling back-to-back win.
